The real solution is to include a few tiananmenSquare variables in all the repositories. Either they exclude the entire repository or just the specific file, in either case the entire project may be unusable.

They're not supposed to, it's just about blocking them from using the software :)

Huh I thought I've been downloading stuff with ipfs from them the whole time

Any piracy costing money is also really really likely to be shut down relatively soon, making you need to change your setup.

I want businesses relying on ads to die though. Doesn't work if too few people use adblockers.

Azzu ,

I block ads specifically so websites that rely on ads as revenue die.

I'm sorry, can everyone not read the actual link? They specifically say they are not training generative AIs, i.e. LLMs.

They are using the data to train non-generative AIs for stuff like emoji and channel suggestions. I.e. "you use this emoji a lot, so it's displayed first" or "people that are in these channels of yours also join these other channels you're not in yet".

This is class A misinformation being spread here, good job. It's unbelievable that I'm the first one to actually verify the truth of this post, because I wanted to share it further and that's what you do before.

It's not about it being used to train AI. It's about the AI either not being open source/I don't get access to it (i.e. not benefitting me) or reddit being paid for my comments (i e. also not benefitting me).

If this AI training would get me or the public access to the AI, or I would be paid for my comments instead of Reddit, I'd be fine with it.

That's how it is currently and maybe also your opinion. But that doesn't mean it has to be like that in a society. It's your opinion that everything public can go private at any time (training proprietary private AI), but we can decide as a society that's not how we want to do things. We can require stuff that used public data to be public as well.

And yeah I kinda get to choose that. As democratic society, anything that the public (i.e. including me) decides, goes. Of course, if there are people like you that don't want stuff trained on public data to be required to be public, democracy will also work in the sense that we don't get that, as it is currently.

I’d rather make the wrong choice than the scary choice.

Unrelated to the topic, but this mindset is exactly why far-right movements are getting so strong right now.

This book contains the latest research of what makes a man attractive to a woman:

https://annas-archive.org/md5/d7b5ceb2699ed79b4b4db586ef435eb0

It's pretty high-level, but important knowledge nonetheless. All of it is true in my experience.

I mean, I guess it’ll come to me.

However, this is an incredibly important mindset, if it means what I think it means. You have to truly be ok with being alone for the rest of your life. Just do whatever gives you most pleasure/fulfillment and talk to girls wherever you see them incidentally. Just go about your life, put yourself in situations that you like where other people exist, and strike up conversations.

It's completely ok to talk to someone at the supermarket, on the street, wherever. Many women fantasize about it in a romantic way. Many women obviously want to be left alone. You have to calibrate your empathy and figure out who is interested or not. But you are allowed to approach and state your interest. Just "dont be creepy"™

Azzu ,
@Azzu@lemm.ee avatar

It's definitely not accidental. Ghosting simply doesn't happen if someone is truly interested romantically. They might be like "this guy's nice" and be accidentally ghosting, but in that case it's not a good romantic relationship anyway. If it's "this guy's so hot/amazing", accidental ghosting will not happen, because the thoughts will be occupied in trying to be with the guy.

Azzu ,
@Azzu@lemm.ee avatar

Of course, but then it's still not the kind of accidental ghosting you talked about.

Not really though? Non-existence of anything is the default. Existence of something puts the burden of proof on whoever claims this something exists. "Quantum mechanics" is a bad example, it's a set of theories, not a single theory (like "a god exists"). Depending on what is being claimed, you can easily show people papers, such as this one which shows experimental observable proof of principles of quantum theory.

At one point, quantum mechanics didn't exist and wasn't generally accepted. Physicists like Heisenberg took upon them the burden of proof and provided it.

General acceptance is how it is treated since then, by non-physicists, but it is simply possible to follow the proof of it if you really wanted to. There are experiments that have been performed and that can be performed again that create observable evidence of the principles of quantum mechanics.

The burden of proof still lies on proponents of quantum mechanics. What you're talking about is more of a societal shortcut, accepting that the burden of proof has been verified by other people, not by yourself, as it's impossible to go deep enough into every subject to actually verify every proof you come across. That's why specialization exists.

The difference is that 99% of physicists confirm the proof of quantum mechanics. Specialists on religion are all very much divided on which god(s) or whether at all one exists, and no proof exists for any religious theories.

It's funny that you used the phrase "this side of the fence", because the fence in that metaphor is exactly the line marking the territory of "enshittification" and "anti-enshittification" ^^

How to kickstart old Samsung GT-S7580? ( midwest.social )

I just found my first phone ever and decided to start it up. I found out the password and decided to factory reset it since I’m planning on selling it. However, ever since I resetted it, it has been stuck on the same “Installing applications” screen (see image). I tried the volume up+power button+home button tactic and...

I have no idea what's wrong. I'd assume the rom got corrupted, or the storage died completely. If it's just corrupted data, you can overwrite it, if the storage is toast, you're out of luck.

I'd try to figure out how to enter fastboot mode, download a stock rom on your PC, connect the phone to the PC and flash the stock rom. There's guides for it out there.

Azzu ,
@Azzu@lemm.ee avatar

Simple starting of phones usually doesn't require data

Azzu ,
@Azzu@lemm.ee avatar

It's actually not extremely hard.

You politely and in private ask her out for a date. If she says yes, she's into you, if not, she isn't. The answer might be something like "I'd really want to but I don't have time bla bla", that's always a "no". If there isn't a clear "yes, let's do it at this time" it's always a no.

Just don't bother with the signals, this makes it very simple. Of course only simple conceptually, you'll still need the courage to ask someone out and with like a 95% chance get rejected, but it truly is as simple as that.

Azzu ,
@Azzu@lemm.ee avatar

99% of people you know will have absolutely no problems with it. The problems are only in your head. Just simply add a "if not, that's absolutely no problem :)". And be graceful when rejected. That's why I added "in private", no one of the friend group has to know, it will allow them to save face.

Society in general has not granted this, it was corrupt lawmakers. Notice the distinction of maximizing profits, no one says no profits should be had at all. But I'm pretty sure most of the people don't want companies to literally hold back progress of a whole field, of humanity in general just so their profits can be maximized. It's only the ones directly benefitting from this that would want this, or if you're brainwashed by those parties, otherwise you're just against your own best interests (and of the rest of humanity) which is irrational.

What he means is that, in olden days, videos would just keep buffering until the whole video was loaded. Now it's only at most the next ~1min, no more. You were able to see the grey bar thingie go all the way to the end.
