I'm kind of amazed watching @fantasy readers react to, what the publishing industry now calls, Romantasy, and this is fascinating to me because Fantasy and Romance have a heck of a lot more similar structures and story beats than at first glance, so not sure why fantasy people see it as a whole different way of storytelling.

The focuses of the genres might be different, but the core beats are the same.

They both are escapism.

They both center relationships as the main plot, except with fantasy, it's a relationship with magic and elements rather than people or creatures.

Fantasy has story elements that, if removed, do not make it a fantasy. Same with romance. For example, in romance, if a story does not have an HFN happy for now or HEA happy ever after ending, it's not a romance. The closest parallel I can think of, right now, is a Magic System or magical creatures.

Group mentions are at end so take care to remove the groups before replying. I figured I would ask the community! Since Threads users can see our replies and top level interactions now, what books, publishing, writer, or accounts do you recommend that do not have a native Fediverse account? If they have a native Fediverse account, I would rather follow them natively. I know about John Green and already follow his Threads account with this account but I’m looking for others. @disability @bookstodon

> An excellent example of this approach is Robert Kingett’s memoir Pass the Salt, which offers an entertaining reading experience while shedding light on critical social issues such as ableism and discrimination. https://www.globalbankingandfinance.com/publishing-and-the-environment-compassiviste-publishing-says-change-is-possible/ @bookstodon

Could you add the title and author to the alt text of these audiobooks? The links in the figures aren't always clickable but I am so glad you updated/made this list! I just discovered Duee narration and sometimes like it better than full cast narration! @SuperWendy @jeevesreads @romancelandia

For my friends and family in @romancelandia this is the only database of romance podcasts. I have absolutely no idea why podcast publishers keep trying to ignore romance as a genre you can categorize a podcast with, but enjoy! Most of these have a HEA but some have an HFN. https://www.theend.fyi/collection/love-is-in-on-the-air

Just finished Iron Flame, part 1, and the Graphic Audio version had me hooked! I like it better than the one made by Recorded Books, but so can't wait for part 2 to come out! Although, a few romance writing quibbles with this one, like the chase, and the payoff, I still think Violet didn't get what she needed from Xaden Riorson confession at the end, but still, highly recommend! There are some ways the eBook is written though, with the italics, that I feel weren't captured via audio but I didn't stop reading! https://www.graphicaudio.net/the-empyrean-2-iron-flame-1-of-2.html @romancelandia @romancebooks

Sharing again because I haven't found a place to get clear, ongoing, coverage about book bans and book censorship. The Literary Activism newsletter is moving to this RSS feed. https://bookriot.com/category/literary-activism/feed/ # @books @bookstodon

Forget Medium and Substack, this writer made 40 websites to tell a mystery story. I don’t exactly know where to start the mystery, but you can read about the project at https://dansinker.com/posts/2024-05-10-doesntexist/ @bookstodon

If you wanna buy and or download all of my Trunk writing so far, buy the bundle here. I'll update the book as I create more fiction stuff. The good thing is, when you buy it once, all future updates to the book are free! https://leanpub.com/trunkwriting/ @bookstodon

I miss these Play Away devices! Offline, easy to use, and, better yet, offline! Sure the sound quality wasn't amazing, but it's far better than fighting with the app sometimes! https://playaway.com/audiobooks/ @audiobooks

NSFW. I decided to give away the stuff I wasn't able to sell for free. Download it, read it, back it up in a better archive, I stopped caring, especially with book censorship as prevalent as it is in my country. Also, everything is under a License so do whatever. Just know that book censorship hurts everyone, and support writers. https://robertkingett.com/free/ @bookstodon

Writing a horror novella with a romance subplot made me realize... I haven't read any modern romance novels! Need to expand my horizon so I am super open to recommendations!

Is it just me, or is self/indie publishing having it's midlife crisis tech bro moment? https://robertkingett.com/posts/6564/ @bookstodon

weirdwriter OP ,

I actually fully agree with you! I love most indie work, like, genuine indie work! It started with that whole viral nobody buys books anymore and that's a side of indie publishing I'd rather never touch again! I do love buying from indie bookstores, online and offline, because that's how I find some really amazing works! @Rhube @bookstodon

I’m trying @librewolf browser and it might seem like a small thing to you all, but they went out of their way to preserve accessibility features for disabled users like myself, whereas other privacy solutions remove accessibility features completely, and their efforts to make sure disabled users have a private focused but accessible browser is more welcome than you can imagine because disabled people need privacy as well. I would argue that disabled people need privacy more. I wish more advocates took accessibility and disability into account the way they have currently. I hope this remains a core mission of theirs
