mjhelto , to Technology in Microsoft’s AI boss thinks it’s perfectly OK to steal content if it’s on the open web

And if a company makes a negligent decision, which kills a million people over time, why is no one being put on death row? They can and do have it both ways, but I can still wish for a just world where if companies are people, they can be put to death for mass casualties caused by their decisions.

mjhelto , to ADHD memes in Cognizant descent

Right? It's like COVID laid bare all the injustices and bullshit of our society and social structures and all but destroyed any motivation to accomplish anything that I had. Things just seemed pointless cause the old myths are fucking lies and I'm tired of killing myself for others during the prime years of my life.

What do you do when your apathy is due, in part, to the world being a cesspool where a few have the most? It really sucks.

mjhelto , to Ask Lemmy in Lemons(?) of Lemmy, what is something that feels so obvious to you that you just get lowkey pissed at the world for not knowing?

I mean the side project of the guys from Pusifer.

The band TOOL exists.

Thanks for setting me straight. I'll edit my post to reflect that.

mjhelto , (edited ) to World News in Israeli army knew of Hamas plot to take hostages before 7 Oct

Edit: see comment from @Zipitydew below this.

Throughout history, America has chosen to ignore warnings of impending attacks. Australia notified the US about the Japanese fleet movement and, if I remember, even predicted the target was Hawaii. They did nothing to stop that attack in order up get the US into the war to help Europe when isolationism in the population was making the idea of getting into the war unpalatable.

mjhelto , to Ask Lemmy in which one is the best anime in your opinion?

Sailor Moon and Ronin Warriors! The former sparked my love of short-haired pixie cuts on women (Sailor Mercury, I think) and the latter sparked my love of redemption arch in storytelling!

(In know these are not the type of anime referenced in the question, but these were my first experiences with anime and stick with me like my first lay.

mjhelto , to Technology in YouTube is dedicated to making itself worse; destroys SponsorBlock with ad injection changes

In the cat and mouse game, the cat can adjust tactics but the mice eventually figure out an alternative route. I'm sure they will find a way with this. Either that or a lot of people will just stop watching YouTube, I'd imagine.

mjhelto , to Technology in YouTube is dedicated to making itself worse; destroys SponsorBlock with ad injection changes

I'd imagine YouTube subtracts the ad length from posted timestamps when clicking a link containing one. But we are taking about Google, soooooo...

Right? Pretty sure that's the human condition these days.

mjhelto , to Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ in How to download and remove DRM from an Amazon documentary?

Ahh the early 2000s. What a time to be a teenager with new tech, a dialup network, and bootleg videos that occasionally contained someone's browser or a floating mouse or a separate video that briefly starts playing over the screen-capped video!

Back when the Internet was new and not a dying corpse, drained of all it's essence by monied interests!

Might be time to hop on your main account and make your nightly post about how mean women are to incels. Tonight is a double feature, you can bitch about how stupid you looked in this convo in the same circle jerk!

mjhelto , to Ask Lemmy in A bit of a weird question: Can modern medicine be a threat to humanity long-term by greatly reducing effects of natural selection?

I think the point Idiocracy was trying to convey had less to do with the genetics of the stupid people breeding, and more so the downward spiral of intelligence due to policy societal and governmental changes. Dumb people, make dumb policy choices, including with regard to education. To me, it stands to reason that the downward slope of intelligence is percitpitated on how effective governmental policy is and how well education is distributed.
