“No Problem” is Chance’s warning to all the record labels that give him problems while he’s trying to make his music. He’s not having any of it, and he’ll take action if they don’t stop messing with him.

The song was originally teased on Chance’s Snapchat in January 2016 and premiered as an exclusive in Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio program ahead of his album Coloring Book (then Chance 3), which was released the following day. It features 2 Chainz and Lil Wayne, who recently collaborated on their album, Collegrove.

Lil Wayne also teased his guest verse in March 2016. While doing a live stream in LiVideo, Tunechi said:

Right now I’m on the studio bus, I’m working on a feature song for Chance The Rapper, shout out Chance The Rapper.

It makes sense that Chance recruited Lil Wayne to rap on this song because of his longterm and public disputes with his label, Cash Money.

Additionally, this song won a Grammy for “Best Rap Performance” and was nominated for “Best Rap Song” in 2017, being the first streaming-only song to be nominated and receive a Grammy.

It didn’t stem from [the election], but it just happened to fall around that time. The song can be used in that way. It can [be used like that] because it’s up to people and their interpretation of a song. You can say it, but it’s not really a political song. I don’t want it to be viewed as a political song because it’s not really that kind of song. But I’m happy that people take it as strength in these times. It’s for the people in the United States to reassure that there’s a feeling inside that were lions.

Besides my family and what we strive to write about, what we put into this world, the election was going on. But is not a political song. But it weighs onto that too. I’ll leave it up to the people to determine how they interpret this song, because I don’t dabble in none of that stuff.

“Boss” has a ‘90s, sort of hip-hop underground feel. It was more of a statement. I guess it’s kinda difficult to make that stuff cut through ‘cause everything is like, I dunno, digitalised…

‘Boss’ is just me going off, really. It’s super raw, cutting edge. It’s just very raw. I remember when I recorded it, I recorded it on a shitty little hand-held [mic]. I recorded the rest of the album on this really nice, crispy [one]. I thought, “I need to re-record ‘Boss’ on this other really nice mic”, to make everything feel consistent. I thought I could add the distortion and the effects later. So I actually did. I recorded it and it just lost some of the magic. We decided to keep it [the original version] and it turned out perfectly.

Get Up Stand Up (Official Fan Video 'Legend 30th') - Bob Marley [3:18 | Sep 11 2014 | Bob Marley]

https://youtu.be/IhQEBAl3Gpk

Written in response to the social and political unrest in Jamaica, “Get Up, Stand Up” is a call to stand up for the voiceless and all those denied basic human rights. Its impact has endured long past its origins to the point that it was adopted by the human-rights nonprofit Amnesty International as its official anthem.

The song was penned during the 1970’s going into the 80’s. This was during the time the island plunged into civil war. He was speaking to the mass; mostly poor citizens that weren’t standing up for their rights and were being used by politicians. There were churches popping up selling god to folks. He was attempting assure people that life is on Earth. Don’t wait until you die, which is the Christian belief that the church sells to profit and comfort off the poor. The isms and skisims is the lies politicians sells to the mass to get their votes. only to throw them a bone which they kill each other for. Meaning that garrison war is what comes when they fight for the scraps.

Great anthem!

One of Molotov’s most famous songs, this is an anthem of the Mexican people. Molotov criticizes the way Mexicans are treated in the US, and says that the negative stereotyping should stop.

IMO:

Bare bones skeleton crews, similar to Railroad workers. They will try to strike but then gov't will make it illegal to do so ASAP.

Staying hopeful though, keep learning and teaching, while being involved at your local community!

The future of our jobs is not a mystery. It is the result of a transformation that started a long time ago. It is obvious, clearly understandable, but well hidden behind of curtain of confusion. This book starts from the most asked question: "will AI take over our jobs?" In order to show how misleading it is. Misleading are also all the alarms raised over the power AI, but the real dangers could have even more deleterious consequences, leading to an era where the masses could be trapped in jobs that are alienating, mind numbing and underpaid.
Exposing the arguments in a manner understandable by the layman, The Age of the Button Pushers goes trough the fields of computer science, economics and media communication. The whole picture will be reconstructed taking into account the lessons from the past with the changes brought by the industrial revolution, the present with the consequences of automation, the near future with the risk of an economy dominated by monopolistic giants. Part of the book will be dedicated to all the fabricated stories that dominate the current narrative on the media, highlighting the flaws and the inconsistencies, showing how altogether these stories paint a picture that makes absolutely no sense.

“Papaoutai”, the lead single from Racine Carrée, was Stromae’s return to fame, after a three-year hiatus. The world last saw him skyrocketing the charts with “Alors On Danse” back in 2010.

While “Alors On Danse” was about the dangers of nightlife, “Papaoutai” (which isn’t a real word but a malapropism of Papa où t'es) seems to be inspired by a particular line from “Alors On Danse”:

Who says loved ones says mourning

Stromae reveals his relationship with his late father, or rather lack thereof. Stromae later revealed that his dad, who was Rwandan, was killed in the 1994 Rwandan genocide when Stromae was a little kid. Stromae’s father’s absence was the inspiration for writing this song, which is about the struggles of growing up without a father figure.

British duo CUT_ recorded an English version (not translation) of “Papaoutai” which charted in France.

This song was the og reason for the post, but I prefered to share "Dad, Where Are You?" due to story and meaning behind lyrics!

Stromae - Alors on danse (Official Video) [3:54 | Pop Rap, Electro-Pop, Dance-Pop, Electro House]

https://youtu.be/VHoT4N43jK8

“Alors On Danse” was Stromae’s first international success and introduced the world to his unique blend of musical styles. The song draws heavily from electro and hip hop, even to the point of lending itself to a rap remix. “Alors On Danse” was the most-played French-language single worldwide of 2010. The song is close in meaning to The Lonely Island’s “After Party”.

The song’s premise is about someone who dances to forget his problems but he soon faces the music and his problems overwhelm him to the point of self-destruction.

Everybody thinks that the only way to forget your problems is having fun, and I don’t think that’s the only way to have fun. You can have fun talking about your problems. Yeah, dance about your problems.

Wow, thank you for sharing that this song had a great impact in your life!

Yes, we must continue to strive to be a wonderful role model to children, while also teaching them about our past mistakes; showing them that we too make many mistakes and try to learn from them, falling and getting back up, never give up!

I wish you well in your fatherhood, I know you are doing the best you can for your family, and that is commendable in itself!

This song explains the life of someone who is depressed and empty; someone who is wanting to find a constant high so they don’t contemplate ending it all.

The song’s title came from producer and Monument Records founder Fred Foster. When Foster proposed the title, Kristofferson heard “McGee” when, in actuality, [Foster] had said “McKee” (Bobby McKee was the secretary of someone who worked in the same building as Foster).

Written by Kris Kristofferson but originally performed by Roger Miller.

In coming up with a concept for the song, a scene from the film La Strada came to Kristofferson’s mind. “I thought of … a scene where Anthony Quinn is going around on this motorcycle and Giulietta Masina is the feeble-minded girl with him, playing the trombone.”

Later on in the film, Quinn hears a woman singing the melody that little girl used to play and finds out that [the girl] has died. That night, [Quinn] goes to a bar and gets in a fight. Drunk, he ends up howling at the stars on a beach.

“To me, that was the feeling at the end of ‘Bobby McGee.’ The two-edged sword that freedom is. He was free when he left the girl, but it destroyed him. That’s where the line ‘Freedom’s just another name for nothing left to lose’ came from.”

[4:21 | Pop-Rock]

“Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star evokes the feeling of deep longing with its slow and repetitive melody, wrapped in sorrowful strings that pull the song’s tone back and forth between hope and despair. Tambourines gently jingle, barely audible, with clockwork precision, eventually rising past monotony and punctuating the song with a sense of hopeful yet elusive joy.

The musical arrangement as a whole is built around a 3/4 time signature, which essentially creates a rhythm that is based upon the number 3. It is the tambourine counting out the beat triplets while the kick drum and snare take turns marking the beginning of each triplet, creating a subdued and hypnotic rhythm.

The song appeared as the first track on the album So tonight That I May See and was written by lead singer and lyricist Hope Sandoval with music composed and produced by the band’s guitarist, David Roback.

While the song never made much of an impact on the music charts it became very well known and was often used in the soundtrack of television shows and films.

Wow, thank you for taking the time to share something personal!

Yes, nostalgia is such a great thing for a bit, but let us not forget to continue to live in the present!

Great recommendations, I have added them to my post on community folder, hahahaha!

The Sugarcubes - Birthday (Official Music Video) [HD Upgrade] https://youtu.be/qQPm5wqMScE

“Birthday” appeared on Icelandic band The Sugarcubes' debut album, Life’s Too Good in 1988.

Björk quoted in Martin Aston’s Björkgraphy:

It’s a story about a love affair between a five year old girl, a secret, and a man who lives next door. I was always changing my mind about what the lyrics should be about. I had the atmosphere right from the start but not the facts. It finally ended up concentrating on this experience I remembered having as a little girl, among many other little girls’ experiences. It’s like huge men, about 50 [years old] or so, affect little girls very erotically but nothing happens … nothing is done, just this very strong feeling. I picked on this subject to show that anything can affect you erotically; material, a tree, anything.”

The Sugarcubes' first international single, released on the small indie label One Little Indian, the single blew up after Chris Roberts named it Single of the Week in the UK music weekly Melody Maker.

Quoting from Evelyn McDonnell’s “Army of She”:

Birthday' is a delicious lark, an upbeat ballad that crackles and pops with sensual delight. The music – a loping, laid-back beat punctuated with scattered fractals of squonking horns – provides a backdrop for Björk’s vocal capers, which escalate from Kate Bush ethereal to an Ethel Merman-esque exclamation: that guttural “brrruoh” belt that has become a Björk trademark but at the time seemed to indicate the sister was from another planet – Iceland indeed.

As lead singer Björk is quoted as saying:

Singing is like a celebration of oxygen.

I think this is a first, I do not remember hearing this song!

Reminds me of another song but it is not coming to mind...

Agolo (Please)

I just saw the face of the God of love and tenderness passing my window. At this moment don’t despair, let’s think of the love that mother earth offers us. If we are generous, she will make our future prosperous. Love, life, Mother Earth. Love, life, Africa motherland. Enjoy the benefits of Mother Earth.

One of my favorite of all time, while also being a protest song!

The Cranberries describe the violence in “The Troubles,” the decades-long conflict in Northern Ireland between nationalists (mainly self-identified as Irish or Roman Catholic) and unionists (mainly self-identified as British or Protestant).

Dolores O'Riordan wrote the song during the band’s English tour in 1993 in memory of two young boys, Tim Parry and Johnathan Ball, who were killed in an IRA bombing in Warrington, England.

“This song is our cry against man’s inhumanity to man, inhumanity to child,” she said.

During a performance of “Zombie” in January 1994 at The Astoria in London, Dolores O'Riordan said:

This song is our cry against the violence in London, against the war in the north of Ireland. And we want it to stop.

I wonder if Tiktok will just make a seperate company that would comply before the 2025 ban comes to effect...

Or they will just exit the US market, interesting stuff.

I still think Glenn Greenwald views on this topic hold true.

"ByteDance doesn't have any plans to sell TikTok," the company posted on its official account on Toutiao, a social media platform it owns.

The sell-or-ban measure was signed into law by US President Joe Biden on Wednesday.

"We are confident and we will keep fighting for your rights in the courts," said TikTok boss Shou Zi Chew in a video posted on the platform this week.

"The facts, and the Constitution, are on our side... rest assured, we aren't going anywhere."

The Chinese government has also dismissed such concerns as paranoia and has warned that a TikTok ban would "inevitably come back to bite the US".

jimmydoreisalefty ,
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for the write up!

IMO, in general, the more important policy would be to protect our data from domestic companies and gov'ts, as regular citizens.

Our data being collected from domestic companies and gov't agencies infringes on our rights, while also being a closer threat than foreign gov'ts, lookingat this from regular citizens view.

Gov't, contractors, and military personnel already have their own way of protecting themselves from foreign countries. Using secure devices and connections, while following their own policies.

In the end, it seems to be pointing toward Tiktok Ban so not sure how well this will go.

jimmydoreisalefty ,
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, thanks for explaining your point of view!

I see the gov't and domestic companies being a way bigger threat than foriegn gov'ts and companies.

Our gov't has way more control on our media and what we see and hear.

Propaganda from your own gov't is a much bigger deal. Once you start criticizing and questioning why the status quo has not changed over the last many decades/half century.

This being: more endless wars, more bailouts required for banks, more policing, and more medical debt, more mental health problems, more student debt, and it continues...

All while people are not experiencing an improvement in their day to day lives, it seems.

All in all, I may be in the minority, when it comes to this topic; when talking about the issues that are caused by all of these systematic problems we will continue to face in the future.

Stay hopeful and keep learning!
