I had different audio cassette of Airwolf where they told the story from the episodes in audio form and in German. I would listen to them when going to sleep.
Today I fall asleep seconds after I hit the mattress because I'm so exhausted every day, no time to listen to anything :D
We're last minute people, maybe a week in advance without air travel, a month with. A family friend just invited us to join them on a vacation NOVEMBER 2025. That seems bonkers to me!...
The thing is that compared to other historical people we kid of have similar evidence. Like we have records of Socrates existing and we have records of some Joshua existing.
The difference is that nobody claims that Socrates was a fantastical god being who defied death, which is a extraordinary claim, we just say he was a very smart guy, we se very smart guys on a daily basis, nothing special with that so we can just believe it and even if we are wrong it has no real life implications.
For the Joshua guy, that's quite a different story. The claims about him are extraordinary and need extraordinary evidence. But we only have normal evidence. If the claims about him were true it would contradict almost everything we think we know about the universe, how it behaves, etc.
So again, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

But I need to look up every single word all the time. So even if the word shows up in the next sentence again I have already forgotten it and need to look it up again. If I knew say 50℅ of the words in a sentence then this would make sense. But just reading a paragraph takes so much time because I'm looking up every word.
I tried those websites where you click on the word and then it shows the translation. But I end up basically clicking on each word and practically just reading it in English :(
Also I am suspecting that it's something in my attitude towards learning this language. I just can't get over it and it makes it so hard. But I need to know it because I live in Korea already for 3 years and in the long run I will need to be able to work for other companies which don't have English as their office language. And also my fiance has to deal with all paper stuff because I'm practically illiterate :(
Yeah, so my question is actually, how do you get to the point where you can consume content in that language? I'm trying to watch videos for babies and struggle to understand it, besides the point that it is so boring that I don't want to do it :D
OK, so that is what I'm also doing but god damn it it's so slow because I feel for some words I need at least 100 times of it showing up so I remember it :(
I had a online teacher for two month once a week one hour. It was OK, especially it kicked me in the but to really do my homework. But it's somehow very expensive.
In person I found one but it's during working hours so I can't attend.
Although Lemmy's userbase is quite large,it still is small enough that I do often see the same people in comment sections. It feels though, that I should recognise more names, because I can only remember around 5 individual ones.
I already have both, a website and a podcast. In this episode https://jeena.net/pods/18 for example I talk with a ex Jehovas Vittnesses about how religion destroyed her life, very emotional episode.
Or in this one https://jeena.net/pods/21 I went to Palestine to speak to a Palestinian family which house has been bulldozed by the IDF 3 times already.
Definatelly the first one. I realized that the comment is somehow very on point with the topics, I even showed it to my spouse and she was also confused. But I didn't realize it was a joke. I guess I need to read it a couple of times.
uBlock Origin for Chrome has over 34 million installations according to the Chrome Web Store
Oh wow, that is very surprising to me. I somehow expected a billion of installations. Especially when I saw the screenshots without it in the article, how can anyone browse the web without it?
I think those kiosks with the big touch screen and the mobile apps work pretty well already, I always rather use them and see a picture what I can order instead of talking to the person.
For me it's the exact opposite, most of them have the possibility to change the language to English, even though it's only partially translated I still can see the pictures of what I'm trying to order. If I need to look at the Korean menu and then speak Korean to the person to order, then I would just go away, especially if they don't have pictures on the menu.
Like he said at the end, nobody is reading the garbege.
I think is something g is written by AI the only way to read it is to make another AI to read it and summerize it. Then you still can decide to read the summary or not.
