I agree with you, but you might find the history of Zionism interesting. Before Israel, there was a sizable portion of Zionists that didn't want Israel to exist in the middle east. There were also Zionists that didn't want a 'state'. They thought it was more important to have a safe place for a sizable Jewish population. There's probably a lot of flavors of Zionism that you'd agree with. It's the dominant Israeli Zionism that's horrible.

When Harper was still in power, the Canadian government had a deal where the oil companies would get subsidized until the oil sands were profitable.
So Canada was giving the oil companies billions.

Trudeau rushed to buy the pipeline when it was canceled. Is that because the oil sands can't be profitable without the pipeline, and this deal is bleeding Canada dry?

I'd argue that the accident is a startle response with body horror mixed in.

Lots of Americans seem to think that state media is a bad thing. Lot's of countries get it right. Especially after it's first been implemented.
I'd often rather have a government (obviously not Russia, China, or in my case Canada) over some oligarch controlling it. Murdoch hasn't exactly been doing good things wherever he goes

Having said that, my grandfather outlived my grandmother by 10-15 years. On his deathbed, he was holding some marriage pictures. He was looking forward to seeing her. Guy believed 100%. Still makes me tear up thinking about it.
