how do my autistic comrades combat loneliness?

@actuallyautistic

Dremmwel ,
@Dremmwel@mamot.fr avatar

@theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic I feel loneliness but I don't see the point of combat it bc it's something positive.
I want to do / learn / read / write so many things that I can easily fill in a whole life without doing anything else.
I have pleasure to meet my few friends, sometimes meet new ppl, I have a work I like but indeed, nothing is sweeter than a day alone at home without any obligations.

@actuallyautistic My autism doesn't make me disabled, SOCIETY makes me disabled.
🤔

I just totally agree with @gaysis
Even in the kindest society, if you're blind, you will still miss something if your whole species is able to see, bc even if you can be fully autonomous in every aspect of your life, you'll be always out from everyone else's visual experience.
Of course, if you add to this the productivist society layer, all can turn into hell.

Maybe psy/neurodifferences are more linked to social context but I don't think only limited to it.

@gaysis
My point is not to discuss @MuppetRat point of view as someone's personnal experience.
But I think promoting a social-only-based model of disability is at risk to completely silence the experiences of many disabled people and give the illusion that in a perfect society, no one would be disabled.
In fact, disability exists as long as someone isn't performing in the normal limits of their species. Society changes the burden, not the disability itself.

@NPR Here we go again... "treating autism". NPR, can't you do better? Or we're going back to treating homosexuality and transgender as well? 🤬
@actuallyautistic

@pa @NPR @actuallyautistic some autistic persons would be glad to be freed from some manifestations of their autism, independantly from any ableist comments of the society around. These persons deserve as much care and attention as the autistic people who don't have such needs.
Fighting for autism representation and acceptance is also fighting for the fulfilling of every autistic people's needs. Yes, even if it's a cure for some autistic manifestations.

@pa
Well, that's your point of view. Mine, as an autistic person, is that I would be glad to have the choice to take or not some treatment* to help me with some manifestations of my autism.

  • call that as you want, treatment, support, whatever, but nothing is magical both in our autistic behaviors and in the molecules identified by scientists.

I understand your view but please don't speak in everyone's name by considering your point is all autistics'.

I only want a freedom of choice in fact.
Methylphenidate didn't make ADHD persons vanish. Instead it gave them the choice of trying to control some signs. Some saw their life transformed, some remains dissatisfied and some don't want to try MPD because they don't want to change what is a part of themselves.
As an AuDHD person, I chose not to take MPD. I want the same choice for some of my autistic traits 🤷‍♀️

Again, I was not talking about 'curing' anything with the objective of being accepted by NTs. I was talking about controlling some signs autistic people can find a burden for themselves.
It's not about searching a 'cure' to have a NT seal of approval, it's just pursuing researches such as some autistic ppl can feel better at their own level / with their own objectives. Someone was talking about pain perception level. It's a good example.
