Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in Inside Netflix’s bet on advanced video encoding

It’s a really interesting article about something we might not think about.

It’d be interesting also to try to see how much money they can save by using a lower bitrate or saving energy by using less servers.

It’s a lot of things we take for granted when we’re just watching a show and you don’t think about all the work behind it.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in iOS 18 could 'sherlock' $400M in app revenue | TechCrunch

I understand why it’s a loss for some developers, but I don’t think we should prevent Apple from integrating something in iOS just because of it.

You could also say these developers just benefited from the fact that Apple omitted to integrate some obvious features.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in Movies and TV industry needs more defederation (opinion)

Please don’t give them the idea to give up on blurays or physical media.

Full HD is already perfectly fine for most people, so I can’t even imagine how great a bluray in 4k is.

I’m still watching DVD’s and, as long as the movie is great, it’s perfectly enjoyable.

Most people are watching Netflix which is apparently not giving you real full HD or 4k and people are not bothered.

Innovation is great, but having a new format would create the need to have new equipment and create even more e-waste when we can’t manage it already.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in Here's What Netflix's First Big Redesign in a Decade Looks Like

I hate the fact that Netflix is getting more and more expensive, but I still think it’s a really good deal.

There are a lot of shows and interesting movies and I hope it stays that way.

If I had to buy everything I watch on netflix, it would end up being more expensive (4-5 movies a month, 2 tv shows simultaneously).

I still buy blu-rays for my favorite movies even if I only watch them every 4-5 years.

Maybe one day Netflix is gonna end up being more expensive than just buying, but it ain’t the case for now.

And about the redesign, it’s difficult to judge without trying it first, but I ain’t a fan of the bigger thumbnails.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Gnome in GNOME 46.2 Released with Various Improvements and Bug Fixes

Well then I guess it has to be some weird driver issue or something related scaling or whatever.

I also have Gnome installed on my girlfriend MacBook Pro from 2012 (upgraded to 16gb of ram) and everything is fluid.

Or maybe I’m not seeing such small details and you have the curse of seeing them.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Gnome in GNOME 46.2 Released with Various Improvements and Bug Fixes

I have a really not powerful Surface Go 1 with 8gb of RAM and Gnome isn’t laggy on it.

I guess your computer has a problem..

Dariusmiles2123 , to Games in Just finished MGS2 and wanted to share a peak moment (Mild Spoilers)

I guess I really wasn’t into the game as I wasn’t emotionally involved at all. Not like in Last of Us 2 when Abby and Ellie are fighting. I was feeling their pain and anger and was really destabilized as if two of my close friends were fighting.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Games in Just finished MGS2 and wanted to share a peak moment (Mild Spoilers)

I don't remember this mission. In MGS V? Since I played the game around its launch, I just remember how disappointed I was.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in Big Tech to EU: "Drop Dead"

I’m swiss and not a EU fan, but I’m really proud of how they are standing up and facing these huge companies.

We’ve clearly reached a point where these companies need to see that they can’t do everything they want.

Let’s fight for reparability, interoperability and privacy!

Dariusmiles2123 , to Games in UK petition of "Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state" just got thrown back to the Government

Thanks for the info.

I had already looked at it and nothing applies to my country, especially because I don’t own « the Crew ».

But I just watched this video and it’s revolting : https://youtu.be/QZYy9KzFT2w?si=znDa-mFop0AQvSu9

Dariusmiles2123 , to Games in UK petition of "Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state" just got thrown back to the Government

I hope everyone keeps putting some pressure on legislators about such things.

We have to remind companies that buying is buying.

I wish there was a petition for my country.

Threema is the way to go🇨🇭

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in TikTok wants to be YouTube now, tests 60-minute video uploads

Tilvids was easy and worked for me.

But yeah Peertube still needs some ease of use features.

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in ‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services

Okay I’ll watch to inform myself. Thanks

Dariusmiles2123 , to Technology in ‘My whole library is wiped out’: what it means to own movies and TV in the age of streaming services

I can’t agree, but I can agree to disagree with you.

For me as long as you’re not paying for some form of art, you’re not supporting the artist, so you’re stealing.

But I’d be the first one to download a torrent if something I paid for kind of disappeared like this.
