Check out healthy gamer gg on YouTube and Twitch. Will point you in the right direction.

SurpriZe OP ,

Thanks! Has it helped you personally? If yes, then in what regard?

dependencyinjection ,

Absolutely.

He has so much content and for me he content around dealing with my ADHD and addiction has helped me understand how your brain works against you and provides good tips for doing better at life.

I find he is very open and sometimes blunt, and he adds a sprinkling of memes as his audience skews younger.

The community too, although I don’t engage so much it’s nice to see the comments of people in a similar situation as yourself. Honestly it’s hard to describe. You’d be best looking through his videos, I prefer the longer discussions. Finding one that relates to you and decide for yourself.

I would be interested in hearing your thoughts if you do go over to YT and watch some stuff.

cabron_offsets ,

Lots of therapists do zoom sessions.

SurpriZe OP ,

Any idea how to get in touch with them?

sylver_dragon ,

I'm sorry I don't have a good suggestion. Just please, don't use BetterHelp. They have already been caught selling health data to advertisers.

SeaJ ,

That was my immediate thought. No suggestion other than NOT BetterHelp.

SurpriZe OP ,

Any recommendations? Would love to have a "friend for a call" when I'm having an attack. But I live in Asia so might also need it somehow 24/7. A real human only though.

SurpriZe OP ,

Thank you. Could you try to recommend one decent path then?

TheAnonymouseJoker ,

Working on yourself is the best therapist you could ever get. This will help more than any therapist will.

BaroqueInMind ,

Please don't listen to this moron. An actual licensed professional who has studied to actually help you will fucking help you, not a fucking youtube video.

TheAnonymouseJoker ,

You are the moron and need a mental asylum for claiming that. He teaches at Stanford and is more knowledgeable than your entire lineage ever will be in the next millenia.

BaroqueInMind ,

I am not claiming the video author is a moron, I am calling you a moron for suggesting that a YouTube video series is a replacement for an actual fucking therapist.

TheAnonymouseJoker ,

Do you know that a therapist will also tell you to work on yourself? A good therapist will give you less than half the tools and protocols that this podcast offers for physical and mental problems. And a good one is rare enough to find, let alone compatibility and price issues, since most of them either hook you on lifelong coping drugs or hook you up on infinite costly sessions.

I was lucky to get a good one who helped in just 3 sessions, and the diagnosis was the only helpful output, not the advice.

SurpriZe OP ,

Thanks for understanding!

protist ,

"You don't need a psychotherapist, have these pseudoscientific YouTube videos instead!" lmao

TheAnonymouseJoker ,

Calling Huberman pseudoscientific is worse than any Reddit behaviour i have seen in my life, minus NATO/Israel support. Some Lemmy users can be beyond unhinged.

TheAnonymouseJoker ,

That Guardian article was written by a woman, starting off like this:

earlier this year I got sucked deep into the “Hubersphere”, the cult-like following of Andrew Huberman

I am getting incredibly toxic agenda vibes catering to a certain cult from this, and refuse to listen to anything this woman has to say. This is the same "manosphere" labelling nonsense they try to do to men's rights. I cancel anyone doing this. If the podcaster was a woman, there would be no such nonsense being claimed.

Then the NYMag article, also written by a woman, starts off like this with a strange focus on frowning on his masculine build:

Today, Andrew Huberman is a stiff, jacked 48-year-old associate professor of neurology and ophthalmology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is given to delivering three-hour lectures on subjects such as “the health of our dopaminergic neurons.” His podcast is revelatory largely

It reeks of strikingly the same agenda as before, to condemn any towering male figures, and to not let the men of society look up to a man with no woman equivalent. What the fuck is even "mechanisms of control" headline? Is it another case of labelling and witch hunting a famous man?

Oh wait, the Guardian article is quoting NYMag trash hit piece that woman wrote. That suddenly makes a lot of sense. As someone who has gotten a share of hit pieces, I know what it feels like and means when these people do it.

Coming to the Slate one, another woman that starts off with attacking sentences claiming "pseudoscience" and the NYMag trash hit piece? Are you sure you did not simply link me same 3 tabloid tier trash articles of no legitimacy?

The article by McGill University site talks mainly about supplement business, and the truth is, he has way better sponsors than most usually do. Sure some may work and some may not, but it is mainly for wealthy people to try out and optimise their health. His information and protocols require almost zero cost and anyone can apply them. I only see Fadogia agrestis as a controversial one he has recommended for testosterone, which in the grand scheme of hundreds of 3 hour podcasts seems like a minor issue.

Out of those, only the one discussing supplement sponsors has a sliver of credibility to it. All the other 3 quote the same NYMag witch hunting agenda hit piece, which belongs to the dustbin. Never quote tabloid trash as legitimate criticism to anyone again.

I am not surprised by nobody idiots like you calling his lectures on stress, anxiety and sleep pseudoscientific, and the voting ratios catering to a certain agenda. Lemmy has a certain bias to it, just like western pro-NATO platforms do, and I am not liking it. But I will reserve my judgement and assume it is just a few people like you, rather than the whole platform for now.

protist ,

You sound really angry. Have you thought about finding a therapist?

TheAnonymouseJoker ,

No, just looking at the state of this world. Have you considered education and decency to speak only when educated?

I highly recommend finding a therapist in the normal manner and then confirming that they offer telehealth (I suspect most do), as opposed to BetterHelp and all those types of services. I have a great local therapist but if I'm ever not up to or can't come in, we just hop on a video call. It's good to have the option of going in person, even if you don't think you're there yet.

Emma_Gold_Man ,

This. The first session with any therapist is mostly giving background, checking fit, and building trust. An app that gives you a different random therapist every time means only superficial help based on a bunch of assumptions of average needs that won't all fit - and no chance to correct those assumptions.

At least in the US, most therapists offer televisits since the pandemic. Your best bets are to either search your insurance's provider list or to search your location here and then filter by "Online" and your insurance carrier

SurpriZe OP ,

One issue is that I'm not based in the US. I live as an expat in Vietnam and would love to find a good therapist but i have zero experience with this so I'd appreciate any help.

harmonicPerc ,

Can you narrow it down to a specific country? Licensure and regulation will likely vary on a per-country basis. Assuming you’re not in the US based on the global availability stipulation, but if you are, psychologytoday.com is a good place to start.

SurpriZe OP ,

I've looked at it and it still requires me to choose a country but mine is not on the list (Vietnam).
