It would have been devastating for free software if google decided to replace android with their own (permissive) system with closed source components baked in.

toothbrush , 1 month ago to Linux in Suggestions for filesystem. I recommentd ext4. Its extremely stable and easy to manage. Btrfs, zfs etc. is overkill for a pure data drive imo.
