Besides Shakespeare, were you assigned more than one book by the same author in school? K-12, not college. @bookstodon

@albnelson What age is K-12? We did multiple John Steinbeck novels that were nothing to do with exams (Scotland in the 90s). My last year of high school we did multiples of E.M. Forster and Tennessee Williams. Often we were just encouraged to read our own choices though. @bookstodon

Since we are coming up on June, it seems like a good time to check in with everyone here on @bookstodon regarding favorite reads of 2024 so far. Whatcha got?

My top five reads of 2024 so far:

The Criminal series of graphic novels by Ed Brubaker (ten primary works)

James, Percival Everett

The Book of Love, Kelly Link

Poor Deer, Claire Oshetsky

Prequel, Rachel Maddow

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I've had a bit of a mixed bag of reading so far this year, but let's go with:
Someone You Can Build a Nest in by John Wiswell
Red Side Story by Jasper Fforde
The Reformatory by Tananarive Due
Orbital by Samantha Harvey
The Husbands by Holly Gramazio

@owlislost It was fun and also a really good way to explore modern dating. I reviewed it here: https://www.curiositykilledthebookworm.net/2024/03/the-husbands/ @kimlockhartga @bookstodon

I would love to get your thoughts and feedback on my from my latest book, The Challenges of Being Me. Do you like it? Does it capture your attention? Without knowing anything about the book, what genre would you say this cover best fits? @bookstodon

@dickrubin716 @thorncoyle @bookstodon It's rare to see a black and white YA cover, and the ones that do tend to have brightly coloured accents. For example Jennifer E. Smith's books have some doodles and a playful font to indicate YA.
