Of course theyll pull the first season, how else would the network drive people to go sign up for their separate shitty streaming site that barely works for an additional $9/mo?

Meanwhile your friendly neighborhood pirate has the first, second, third AND fourth seasons, as well as all the extras and the Christmas special, always available all the time…

empireOfLove ,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

then you find out the power went out, and your boomer habit of using a normal AC powered alarm clock (so you can keep your phone away from your bed to improve sleep quality) just bit you in the fucking ass

empireOfLove , (edited )
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Yeah. A clock with a full backup battery (not judt time keeping) is on my list of things I should get but can’t be assed to go look for.

empireOfLove , (edited )
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

Just keeps me from using the damn thing. Whenever you’re in bed you should be sleeping, your brain gets accustomed to that habit of lay down = sleep.

If you have your phone there while laying in bed and decide to pick it up to scroll lemmy/instagram/youtube/whatever, the stimulation and blue light will make you want to not sleep. Plus you might end up burning two hours of your sleep tine and not realize it…

empireOfLove ,
@empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

mine has a backup- it’s a coin cell to keep the time saved, not to run the alarm.

i’m sure true rechargeable battery clocks exist that would further solve this problem if I bought one; but that would both require effort to find a good one, and also run against my other boomer habit: being a fucking tightwad lmao

like, do you wear it while you’re sleeping even? or just on a charger pedestal

I do have an old samsung Gear 2 that I don’t use anymore. Could use that and skip pairing to my phone. I just don’t wear smart watches, because I never wear a watch at all (blue collar industry habits, can’t wear any bands that might get caught in moving machinery)

He doesn’t have a chance in the popular vote. He already lost it once (twice, technically). And with how polarizing he’s become, only the more extreme fringe actors are outright supporting him, and those with real money want a “safe” candidate that allows them to keep grifting behind the scenes without causing such a big ruckus. He’ll lose a lot of big donor support, and people are growing tired of the constant outrage news that he generates.
We’ve seen how he performs a symphony of a clusterfuck in a 4 year term, and not even the GOP itself is jumping right at the idea of embracing another 4 years of that struggle- they’re waffling at the idea, and a lot of the extremist upstarts that got a foothold under Trump now want to knock him out of it so they can have their own moment of glory. But Trump was a one-time shot. He was THE face of “The Big Businessman, doing a Business” that appealed to the older, more bootstrapy kind of crowd that still unfortunately dominates the actively voting public. All the younger extremists are trying to parrot him and can’t quite get away with the same level of “crazy” energy without looking actually crazy, since they don’t have the gold-plated toilet of “American Success” to back them up.

But regardless of that, will every hard-right extremist fight tooth and nail to ensure he still wins, including but not limited to high treason, rushed gerrrymandering, voter intimidation (or outright slaughter) and the active dismantling of every aspect of democracy down to the local voter box level? You bet your ass they’re gonna try here.

I’ve almost always used PrusaSlicer just because the only printers I had access to were mk3s+.

I’ve started playing with Cura though because A. i wanted some more complex prints that PrusaSlicer struggled to support, and B. We also got some creality cr-30’s functional at my college again. So far I still feel Prusa is easier but that’s likely just familiarity.

    How much did it run you all in?

    I’m a little iffy on jumping on the Chinese supplier train just because I worry about longer term parts and software support. Id rather support a based company like Prusa, except Prusa just isnt keeping up with everyone else in the features/capabilities department… But if the Chinese supplier’s quality passes, it’s hard to argue against.

    Hmm. If the common wear items are commodity parts I’d probably be okay with it.

    It being a high gear ratio direct drive is a huge plus too. I like my TPU.

    I’ll add it to the consideration list for next year’s graduation present to myself. However without a multiextruder head or filament changer (I REALLY wanna do disolvable supports), it’ll be lower on the list. Thanks for providing your experiences!

    The design-model-to-print pipeline is really what I enjoy the most too. Very nice design work!

    Feels like a lot of people get into printing but then just print existing models from online- which is valid, but missing out on a HUGE opportunity that is really what makes 3d printing useful.

    That’s why the non-parentheses number is zero for all seeded torrents. In parentheses number is “hey I’m here”. Out of parentheses number is “hey I’m here. Let me in.”

    For actively downloading torrents they’re an indication of connection health. If there’s 150 announced seeders but you only open a connection to one or two of them, you might have a network problem.

    Issues with layer adhesion post bimetal heatbreak and hardened steel nozzle install.

    I apologize for the links below being vendor specific, but the linked products are the specific products I have used. Layer adhesion almost always means plastic is extruding too cold. Especially if the adhesion problems are happening on layers off the build plate. Keep bumping the temp and maybe use less part cooling fan- you can’t really make it worse at this point.

    Hardened steel nozzles do not conduct heat nearly as well as typical brass nozzles. (The thermal conductivity of steel is around 40w/m-K for high alloys, while for brass it is 110w/m-K). It cannot heat the plastic up nearly as fast.

    I usually start at 210C for PLA on my Prusa mk3’s with a brass nozzle, and will back down to 200/205 if there’s more overhangs or too much stringing. But on the printer set up with a steel nozzle I ended up around 225C to get results comparable to 210 on the brass nozzle.

    empireOfLove OP , (edited )
    @empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

    I also have a zen4 cpu.

    The 30 second boots are memory training. The motherboard is basically training itself on how the DDR5 memory modules respond on every signal wire and it can be inordinately slow depending in memory amount. For whatever reason, AMD DDR5 systems are slower at it than comparable Intel DDR5 systems.

    Update your BIOS to the latest version then enabled “Memory Context Restore”. The bios will then save the last training results and stop taking 30 seconds to start up.

    recommendations for 2.5 gig 48 port managed switch

    Anybody see a 48 port managed 2.5 Gig ethernet switch for reasonable pricing yet? it seems like these are still either thousands of dollars or sold for chinese market without appropriate certificatiosn to be plugged into the north american electric grid. Any help would be appreciated (even better if it has 2-4 SFP+ 10 gig ports...

    empireOfLove , (edited )
    @empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

    2.5 is still really new in the networking space and nobody has hit economies of scale yet. I very much also want to build out my home LAN to be entirely 2.5g compatible since 1g is limiting for my NAS use case (video storage), 10g is overkill and not supported by my client devices, and I only need 16/24 ports. but good God the hardware just isn’t reasonable yet.

    You pretty much have to bite the bullet if you really want 2.5 right now. What might honestly be worthwhile is finding a used enterprise 1g switch with the number of ports you need, and will still be “enough”, as those can be had for only a couple hundred dollars. Sit on that for 2-3 years until the 2.5g and 5g hardware market starts to fill out and you can decide how badly you need 2.5g then

    empireOfLove ,
    @empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

    Oh yeah that’s a good idea too. Sure any one client device will be limited to 1g but your NAS could use a super cheap multi-port ethernet card to get 2 or 4g bonded link speeds so it can serve multiple devices at full speed.

    Enterprise SSD?

    Hey folks, I’m at my wits end. I’ve been screwing with proxmox for years now, but I’m at a tipping point. I’ve just used consumer SSDs in it to run my VMs off of - but I just realized after a dozen or so crashes over the last week that I think the SSDs are the culprit. @empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

    Really. Anything branded from Samsung or Crucial(Micron) is going to be fine. They are the top producers of NAND, produce high quality products, and stand behind warranties. But you are gonna pay out the nose for the privilege of enterprise grade hardware.

    You might just be buying lower quality consumer SSD’s though, since even they should be able to handle a surprising amount of abuse.

    If I had a dollar for every time rebuilding a RAID array after one failed drive caused a second drive failure in the array in less than 24 hours… I’d probably buy groceries for a week.

    empireOfLove ,
    @empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

    Yup. Same age, same design, same failures… and array rebuilds are super intense workloads that often force a lot of random reads and run the drive at 100% load for many hours.

    I always make hot lemon-and-honey “tea” when it’s fuck-off cold out. It’s what my mom did for sore throats (which I did get, and still got, frequently in the winter) so it’s super comforting.

    Just squeeze about 1/2 of a lemon into a mug of hot water, then drizzle in honey to taste. Best done with a highly flavored local clover honey imo. And you can use a teaspoon or two of the storebought squeeze bottle lemon concentrate if its all you have.

    I’m running OwnCloud in Docker and have setup NGinx as a reverse proxy. This works perfectly for all my other services, but OwnCloud keeps throwing the untrusted domain error. I’ve edited the config.php file to add my exampledemain.com but no dice. Does anybody know what I need to do?

    IPO = Initial Public Offering, where shareholders offer to sell their shares to the public, shifting a company from a “private company” (it belongs to me, you, and that guy) to a “public company” (it belongs to anyone who pays enough for the shares)....

    Jpg at 70% will lose a significant amount of detail. It is a “lossy” format, you cant judt compress data for nothing.

    AVIF is significantly more efficient than jpeg, so it loses less image data for higher compression (smaller file sizes).

    JXL supports both lossy and lossless compression, and is supposed to be more efficient yet over AVIF. However it’s got proprietary all over it because Google et al. For thst alone I would shy away from JXL and go AVIF.

    empireOfLove ,
    @empireOfLove@lemmy.one avatar

    Sure, but on these fully DC printers all the power control hardware is integrated into the main board and supplied from a single main power rail. You’d have to basically build a separate power control board with that would allow you to isolate those MOSFET’s on their own power rail and then jump the PWM control signal over to it from the main board. Decent amount of electronics knowledge and skill required to pull that off.
