It is unconscionable for Israel to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Israel should be suspended from international sports organizations and events until it ends its grave violations of international law.

@actuallyautistic Do you ever question whether or not you're autistic? I do in part because some of the traits I have can also be attributed to my brain injury, so I don't know if it's one or both

I can tell when I need to lower the volume of something I'm listening to when I feel a kind of tightening in my ear muscles, and/or ringing in my ears, or a slight feeling of stress coming in from my environment.

I also just try to remember to always proactively lower the volume a couple ticks from what i first set it at, to prevent all those sensations.

What are the signs for you that things are a little too loud?

@dave @dyani @actuallyautistic I have a friend who used to do long distance driving for a living (amongst other things were transplant organs and other time criticals) and he had 3 playlists set up on his music device (ipod I think) one was catchy tunes for motorways and to stay awake, one was softer to stay alert and one was very soft to blanket out other distractions for when he really needed to concentrate.

@dyani @dave @actuallyautistic a good example of working smart to me.

I sometimes thought my father thought he could't die while he still had books on his pending pile (a stab at immortality I seem to be replicating)... so, it was strangely touching to see Tom Gauld has had similar thoughts.

When President Joe Biden gives the commencement speech at Morehouse College this weekend, it might be a short one. Administrators at the historically black college have warned the event will be stopped if there are protests over Gaza.

This week I've been mainly reading, no. 153.

Each of Emma Newman's Planetfall quartet explores a different aspect of the same overarching story of religious driven intergalactic migration. In Atlas Alone (2019), the fourth story centres on an elite gamer & their attempt to uncover & then take revenge for a crime against humanity. To say much more would ruin the plot for you, but as with the others, this is great, fascinating sci-fi, which has a great payoff at the end.

@TimWardCam @ChrisMayLA6 @bookstodon have you read the Hyperion books by Dan Simmonds, there are several very interesting takes on religions and how they could come about in space.

@TimWardCam @ChrisMayLA6 @bookstodon I liked them, hard sci fi, with a sense of humour.

    Dear @bookstodon

I would like recommendations for books where the main character is a mild villain dealing with much worse villains and is telling the story as they go. Fantasy and Scifi are always comforting genres but I venture out for the right books.

I would also like books where men and women are doing things and are friends without a romance being shoe-horned in. But I concede I might as well be asking for a pony at this point.

Thanks for any help and or boosts!

My new therapist is also autistic and they asked me to envision who I could be if if I shed 50+ years of masking and let myself be fully, authentically me. It’s so exciting…I simultaneously grin and tear up when I think about it. I think I’ve been waiting for permission without realizing it. I can’t wait to see who emerges from this. @actuallyautistic

@ImmedicableME @actuallyautistic I am ND and it is only in the last couple of years that I realised my whole life of being the square peg chafing in the various societal holes had left such a mark.
