ParabolicMotion , (edited ) to World News in "That is madness": Pope Francis condemns Texas migrant crackdown, rejects "conservative" Catholicism

Okay…but could Vatican City help the situation by opening its doors to Migrants from Mexico? Are they able to house them, provide them food and water, provide them medical care, provide them child care and education for their unvaccinated children, and promise them jobs to sustain themselves long-term? Can they justify raising the taxes on the working class of their own people to pay for these migrants? They’ll probably need to raise taxes on big businesses. This will probably result in big business raising their prices to recoup their losses from paying higher taxes. They probably won’t be able to take it out of other areas, because minimum wage is always increasing as cost of production often increases, too, for most companies. Then those companies will be selling overpriced products to the inhabitants of that country, with people about to riot over how expensive everything has become; especially food, for example. Some might say it’s not that big of a deal, but the money to support a new, huge, group of people has to come from somewhere. Does Italy have the money to fund all of that?

Some of our nation’s homeless might have better treatment if they crossed the border to Mexico and then turned around, and crossed it again, as a migrant.

Instead of encouraging so many people to run from a country that can’t protect its people, or provide for them, why can’t other nations take a stand against that country’s government and intervene? It’s going to cause civil unrest to push a huge group of people from one country into another, where the language and culture are different. Avoid all of that, have America, and other nations intervene to improve Mexico so people won’t be risking their lives to cross the border, and causing mass outrage here, in America.

ParabolicMotion , to World News in Biden: What's happening in Gaza is not genocide

I think the ICC is handling it better. There are two groups in that area that want to murder people, and there are now warrants issued for their arrest. I just don’t think America should have become directly involved.

Building a pier and trying to send in aid is a nice gesture, but Palestinians are killing each other for those boxes of food, and Israelis are attacking aid vehicles. It’s starting to look like Blackhawk Down.

Biden backed Israel by giving them weapons because Hamas had taken so many Israelis hostage. If he had picked the other side when news of the hostages began to spread, society would have been calling him a Nazi.

Both sides in this war want to kill each other. There are children in both sides of these groups that are suffering. How can anyone pick a side and hope that they kill the other side? It’s inhumane. Let the terrorists be arrested.

It’s starting to look like Blackhawk Down. The aid vehicles are being attacked.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in How do you cope with, life and the decaying world around you?

I totally understand what you mean about global warming. Well said!

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in How do you cope with, life and the decaying world around you?

I try to find things to do that are productive and help those who are hyper focused on the present due to their situation. Give blood. Volunteer. If that’s not something that interests you, find some courses to take, or some quick certification courses to take that align with your interests. You’ll never regret filling your spare time by helping others or learning a new skill.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in A bit of a weird question: Can modern medicine be a threat to humanity long-term by greatly reducing effects of natural selection?

This part made me think OP was implying that they shouldn’t breed if they have a physical ailment, or disability:

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in A bit of a weird question: Can modern medicine be a threat to humanity long-term by greatly reducing effects of natural selection?

Yeah, I guess college biology textbooks and Charles Darwin’s origin of species weren’t enough for me. I shouldn’t try to stop OP’s hint at arguing against letting people with physical disabilities breed.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in A bit of a weird question: Can modern medicine be a threat to humanity long-term by greatly reducing effects of natural selection?

First of all, it isn’t “bro”. Secondly, I’m trying to make a point that valuing the mental capabilities of people is worth mentioning, when the OP seems to dwell on the physical worth of a human. Part of the evolutionary process is long-term problem solving skills, isn’t it? We create ways to resuscitate people, cures for diseases, and solutions for other medical problems. OP insists that gives us weaker people that continue living in our society? Weaker in what regard? If all cancer is suddenly cured, then which people are weaker? I knew a girl that had an intellectual disability, but was fairly physically fit. She could run well, and walked and talked as well as most people. Would you want to encourage her to have children, while discouraging some woman with breast cancer from having children?

I think I understood OP fairly well. I just question if he wants to limit procreation amongst the disabled. Remember that Hitler wanted to do that.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in A bit of a weird question: Can modern medicine be a threat to humanity long-term by greatly reducing effects of natural selection?

I don’t think I misunderstood. You see dropping dead as your prize for losing in some type of social Darwin competition. You don’t see medical advances and life saving measures as being part of our evolution, as a species, to better survive? No offense, but regardless of how you feel about being resuscitated, some paramedic, or other first responder is still going to try to save your life. They can’t exactly stop the process and ask you for your opinion if you have no pulse, dude.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in A bit of a weird question: Can modern medicine be a threat to humanity long-term by greatly reducing effects of natural selection?

I’m sure you’ll be asking your first responder this question while he or she is in the middle of performing CPR on you, and calling for an AED, right? You’re not regretting the discovery of 30-2, are you?

ParabolicMotion OP , to cats in He had his last dose of round 1 amoxicillin

Thank you! I was so worried he wouldn’t make it through the infection. I thought it was going to be much worse, after I first realized he was attacked by something. I’m surprised, and glad, to see how fast his face healed. He isn’t completely healed yet. His jaw bone is still heavily infected, and teeth need to be removed. It’s going to be a long summer.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in What is the weirdest flavoured thing you've had?

One of those Harry Potter jelly beans that tastes like snot.

ParabolicMotion OP , to cats in He had his last dose of round 1 amoxicillin

Thank you. He is due to have his teeth extracted in July. He has round two of amoxicillin next month, after another appointment with the veterinarian.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in Chip Enjoyers - What's your favourite brand/type of chip?

I think you can order them at Walmart.com. They are tough to find in stock in some stores. They are worth trying if you’ve never had them. Just fair warning, they are super addictive, and they aren’t that healthy.

ParabolicMotion , to Ask Lemmy in Chip Enjoyers - What's your favourite brand/type of chip?

Really? They have been on the shelves in California for years. Most grocery stores have them. They’re really good!
