Ranked , also known as or instant-runoff voting (), is how they do it here in the .

I'm an citizen now (still holding on to my citizenship and voting though). Yesterday=first time I voted using this system.

Better-designed system, imho. Sharing so fellow can get a sense of how this works. I wish it were everywhere in . Apparently, it's only shown up in limited areas.

How Ranked Voting Works 1. Voter Preferences: Voters rank candidates in order of preference. Instead of selecting just one candidate, they can list multiple candidates in the order they prefer them (1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, etc.). 2. Initial Count: Votes are initially counted based on the first preferences. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the first-preference votes, they are declared the winner. 3. Elimination and Redistribution: If no candidate achieves a majority, the candidate with the fewest first-preference votes is eliminated. The votes for this candidate are then redistributed to the remaining candidates based on the voters' next preferences. 4. Repeating the Process: This process of elimination and redistribution continues until one candidate has more than 50% of the active votes and is declared the winner.

    The sorting and counting of ballots in the local and European elections, and in the Limerick mayoral election, will begin at count centres across the country this morning after a campaign marred by incidents of intimidation, abuse and in some cases violence against candidates. Gardai are understood to be pursuing several investigations into instances of assault or intimidation over the past month, while research by two anti-extremist groups confirmed the views of many parties and politicians about a campaign which has seen repeated occasions where candidates feared for their safety. Candidates from across the political spectrum were targeted, including far-right candidates and those critical of immigration. However, researchers said “the majority of those taking part in such actions are influenced by far-right rhetoric.” This trend mirrors an increase in far-right political violence across the European Union, the report states.
