Our emotions tell us a lot about what’s happening in our lives.

Because of people telling us that we emote wrong and alexithymia, however, we lose touch with them. Then we get bullied for being “emotionless”

How do you get in touch with your emotions?

and the conceptual disaster produced by measuring in a shitty way.

@theautisticcoach I get in touch with mine through art, music, dance, and other creative outlets, as well as meditation. But I also have those moments where I appear "emotionless," like you said, especially when dealing with death. @actuallyautistic

Many Autistics get completely overwhelmed by emotions

@AutisticMumTo3 @actuallyautistic indeed. And many more ignore their emotions to their detriment

<raises hand> That would be me that you're talking about.

As far as "getting in touch" goes, probably music is as close as I can get, but it's still a long way off.

I was thinking about this the other day actually (didn't see your post) in the context of not feeling like I've ever truly had a safe space.

Yes, I know how stupid that sounds coming from a middle-aged white cis/het person, but it is what it is.

(the internet is basically never a safe space, so don't start 😜 )

I've just decided to use (self-) hypnosis to give myself a way to more reliably figure out my energy levels. If that works out I will see if I can figure out to connect with my emotions in a similar way.
Right now I try to use an app called "How We Feel" to figure out and track how I feel. I like that I lots of options with descriptions to choose from. But it's hard and most of the time I seem to just guess. So far I don't really seem to be "in touch" with my emotions.
