Fitik , to Fediverse in Earth Temperature Timeline

Sorry, that's a cool infographic, but how is it related to the Fediverse?

ianovic69 OP ,
@ianovic69@feddit.uk avatar

I assumed that anyone visiting the Fediverse is also a resident human of the Earth.

palordrolap ,

By that logic, this could be a place for literally anything, when clearly it isn't. It's for Fediverse-specific posts and commentary.

Climate change is important, yes, but it's not Fediverse-specific, is it?

Wiitigo ,

How. Dare. You.

Disgusting humans...

slazer2au , to You Should Know in Earth Temperature Timeline

Brave of you to assume seeing one graph will change people's minds.

Pencilnoob ,

Definitely include a graph of shareholder value overlayed on top.

Sarcasm aside, maybe we should have a graph that also shows:

  • average hours worked a year
  • average number of sunsets a person sees before they die
  • average hours spent with loved ones per year
  • average rent
  • average hours worked to pay for groceries
  • average hours spent doomscrolling on social media
  • average student loan debt payments
  • suicide rate
  • average zoom calls a year
  • happiness

And see that by basically all metrics we are working more, paid less, more depressed, more stressed, and unhappy.

akwd169 ,

I would absolutely show that graph to everyone I know

ianovic69 OP ,
@ianovic69@feddit.uk avatar

Slightly odd that you would assume this one graph is the only information people have been exposed to.

Not really doing a great job finding the right place for your posts. You broke three community rules posting this here; rules 1, 2 and 9. Perhaps you should try a comics community?

TheGiantKorean , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
@TheGiantKorean@lemmy.world avatar

I just looked up Event Horizon and it only got a 33%. I love that movie. It genuinely really creeped me out. Few horror films do.

BeMoreCareful ,

I watched that thinking it was just sci-fi while high as a kite in my teens.

I'm still not over it.

A+

Mighty ,
@Mighty@lemmy.world avatar

What? I still hold that movie as the scariest thing I've ever seen. It grips me just thinking about some scenes. It's an amazing movie. Can't believe the score

biofaust ,

That is absurd! Event Horizon is the only legit Doom movie.
That was the idea all along and they even used the sound clip from the spawn cube in the movie.

Also, although I am not a 40k fan, I know some people see this as a prequel to Warhammer 40k as the moment in which humans first get to use the Warp.

It was ruined by execs, but it is a masterpiece, especially in the production design.

improvisedbuttplug , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?

Chappie (32%)

I love that movie and have seen it several times. Directed by Noel Blompkamp (District 9) and starring Die Antwoord.

It’s extremely original and entertaining sci fi.

squidman64 ,

Wtf how is it 32%? While maybe not a masterpiece it was a decent movie, I really enjoyed it as well and also cried when the robot got hurt

P03 ,

Agree. Its no "MaStErPiEcE" but it was for sure not a 32%.

rob_t_firefly ,
@rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world avatar

I liked Chappie a lot when it came out, I was and still am a fan of Neill Blomkamp's work, but found this one harder to enjoy over the years the more I learned about how awful the two people from Die Antwoord are in real life.

Quazatron , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
@Quazatron@lemmy.world avatar

Constantine - 46%

Predator - 34%

Ghost in the Shell - 43%

Hellboy - 17%

Robocop (2016) - 49%

Well, it seems like I have poor taste in movies after all.

LikeMike , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?

Grandma's Boy is a perfect stoner comedy. Featuring Nick Swardson in a hilarious breakout performance. RT can kiss 15% of my ass.

Rai ,

I vote Freddie got Fingered as the only better stoner comedy.

Or comedy overall.

It’s one of the best movies.

tobogganablaze , to Fuck Cars in Today's xkcd ranks cars as less dangerous than bikes and scooters

No, they ranking the usage of a car as less dangerous. Which is correct.

Kuinox ,

If we look at it statically, biking is healthier because it reduces health problems.

bionicjoey ,

Bike is healthier until you get pancaked by an SUV or pickup which are increasingly all that people drive on roads nowadays. The roads aren't safe for bikes. If you live somewhere without dedicated bike infrastructure (no, painted bike lanes on the street don't count), biking is basically playing Russian roulette.

Kuinox ,

Even in area not made for bikes, the health benefits outweight the risk of getting killed by a car in the total longevity.
This become false when the road have too much traffic: air pollution damage start to outweight the health benefits of doing sport.

outsideno1877 ,

Not really no cars cause a MASSIVE amount of deaths less likely to be the driver potentially but its still far more fatal to other people which imo is actually worse

Riker_Maneuver , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
@Riker_Maneuver@startrek.website avatar

Hook with it's 29% tomatometer rating. Dustin Hoffman—sexual misconduct allegations aside—fucking nailed it as Hook, and I think the general concept of an adult Peter Pan returning was pretty cool. Also, who doesn't love Robin Williams? It was a movie I loved in my childhood so I am absolutely biased, but 29% seems absurd. I still find the "Don't try to stop me, Smee" scene hilarious to this day.

ExtraOrdinary , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998), starring Johnny Depp sitting at a blasphemous 50%

legion , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
@legion@lemmy.world avatar

Following the XKCD rules and keeping it in the 2000s and later makes it a lot harder. I could make an entire list of '90s movies that qualify.

But my answer is: Pitch Black.

Bonus answer, which doesn't quite qualify because it has an exact 60% rating: Love (2011, the space one)

Leviathan , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?

  • Jupiter Ascending (28%)
wolandark , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?

I actually like Riddick, all three of them! Haven't checked but am pretty sure they would've gotten less than 60%

CaptainBlagbird , to Ask Lemmy in Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
@CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world avatar

Hook (29% TomatoMeter).

But it was released in 1991, so it wouldn't count for the XKCD version. Also the audience score is 76%, so not really an unpopular opinion I guess.

DrVader ,

I'd no idea it was rated so poorly, that's a gem of a movie! I legit just bought it earlier this month

AverageCakeSlice ,

Wtf, I thought this was a critically-acclaimed movie.
