I24 used to be halfway decent, but not since the genocide started.

However, during the 2023 Israel-Hamas conflict, i24 has reported favorably on the Israeli government and their actions and negatively on Palestine, such as this: “One of the commanders told me they saw babies’ heads cut off. soldiers told me they believe 40 babies, children were killed.” To date, this claim has not been verified.

Generally, news reporting is not always factual and sometimes unsubstantiated. Further, the network holds a pro-government bias that currently leans right.

They've been one of the main spreaders of propaganda since.

It's only a matter of time before their rating drops the last level to no longer be an acceptable source here.

Given the circumstances, I'd like to see mods take a proactive stance.

Mods treat MBFC like a holy grail and that site is ran by Zionists so you're out of luck.

This is on Netanyahu.

He's put a target on the collective back of the entire Jewish diaspora, just to save his own political skin.

FlyingSquid Mod ,

I agree with your statement (I am Jewish), but in this case, it doesn't sound like antisemitism was involved. Just criticism of Israel, something that is not antisemitic, no matter how much Israel and its supporters claim it is.

Okigotitnow ,

Well. It sounds more then criticism. Sounds like a use of violence to destroy the hotel and try to attack Israeli people (which do not represent the Israeli government)
It's not a question of antisemitic behavior. It's just uneducated people taking out steam in the wrong place.

Anyolduser , to World News in Exclusive: U.S. pier attacked during construction work off Gaza coast - I24NEWS

Just to nip the inevitable deluge of "I don't trust an Israeli news source" comments in the bud, here's an article from the Navy Times that cited statements by American and UN sources stating the attack took place. No casualties were reported by said US and UN sources.

https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2024/04/25/us-led-gaza-humanitarian-aid-pier-comes-under-fire-un-officials-say/

At the time of this comment the article states that no group or organization has taken responsibility for the mortar attack.

American and UN sources

I don't trust them either

Anyolduser ,

Well then have fun twiddling your thumbs, I guess.

I only trust reliable Hamas news

Why would Gazans attack a pier being built to being them aid?

It's far FAR more likely that the attacks were carried out by Israelis. It wouldn't be the first time they attacked people trying to provide aid to the Gazans. Hell - it wouldn't even be the first time this month.

eleventy_7 ,

I don't doubt the possibility that Israelis were behind this attack, but there's a good chance this really was done by Hamas/Hamas related groups. from this post to the sub just earlier today, a Hamas official mentioned potential attacks against the pier:

https://apnews.com/article/hamas-khalil-alhayya-qatar-ceasefire-1967-borders-4912532b11a9cec29464eab234045438

Al-Hayya also implicitly threatened that Hamas would attack Israeli or other forces who might be stationed around a floating pier the U.S. is scrambling to build along Gaza’s coastline to deliver aid by sea.

“We categorically reject any non-Palestinian presence in Gaza, whether at sea or on land, and we will deal with any military force present in these places, Israeli or otherwise … as an occupying power,” he said.

so it could be a case of Hamas cutting off their nose to spite their face. I'm gonna have to see this reported by non Israeli news sources before I believe it though.

cecinestpasunbot ,

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Hamas or another Palestinian group that attacked either. However, I don’t think it would be without reason.

The problem is if the pier is completed then it offers a route for an aid other than the Rafah crossing. That would give Israel an excuse to invade Rafah and take control of the border with Egypt. If they succeed, Israel would finally have full control over Gaza’s food supply which would allow them to use starvation as a weapon. If you want to genocide a people starving them is far more efficient than bombs and bullets. This is a future Palestinians desperately want to avoid.
