Love pretty much any musical instrument with strings and frets (and a few with just strings). Play/build/repair as many of them as I can.

Besides Shakespeare, were you assigned more than one book by the same author in school? K-12, not college. @bookstodon

dickens. really didn't like great expectations (though more the teacher i had than the book) but there was enough there i spent one summer trying to read every dickens novel i could get.

I need to reorganize my fiction bookshelves. What system has worked best for you? I'm leaning towards going by author, though that leaves the question of how to treat anthologies. Maybe anthologies could be first, or shelved by the editor's name. Alphabetical by title (preceded by numbers) might work just as well as by author.

I had been doing them by height size, except for the graphic novels, which tend not to match any standard size.

These particular bookshelves are all fiction (except for graphic nonfiction) so organizing by subject seems unwieldy.

i tend to clump by similar use/mood. spice rack has things like 5 spice, ginger, mustard, cumin/coriander seeds together, baking spices together, herbs together. only things i use regularly go into the rotating rack by the stove.

seem to do similar with books. music/musicology/luthiery together, arts/crafts/pens together, cookbooks together.

would love to claim there is organization within but life is short. ;)

Dear @bookstodon

I would like recommendations for books where the main character is a mild villain dealing with much worse villains and is telling the story as they go. Fantasy and Scifi are always comforting genres but I venture out for the right books.

I would also like books where men and women are doing things and are friends without a romance being shoe-horned in. But I concede I might as well be asking for a pony at this point.

Thanks for any help and or boosts!

they can be a bit dark but many of the moorcock series (elric, corum) and the wagner's kane series might fit this.

"The pile beside my bed never shrinks; at the bottom of the stack are books I've been planning to crack open for months. My shelves remain full of lingering aspirations," writes the Walrus's Michelle Cyca. She looks at the problem of unread books, and the difficulty in offloading our libraries. What do you do with your unwanted books?

i've always considered the YA designation as the minimum age for which it's appropriate; not the only age for which it's appropriate.

i hope i never feel too old to enjoy fantasy, SF, coming of age stories, etc.

that's somewhat what i'm disputing. a lot of good YA literature is interesting or compelling to me and i haven't been a YA for a very long time. i don't think that's because i'm childish. i think good writing can be accessible to a wide age range.

i still re-read susan cooper and lloyd alexander. i consider them more just good fantasy than just "YA suitable".
