I think they meant that it doesn't start playing until you select the tab. If a video tries to start playing in a background tab, Firefox won't let it, but it won't stop videos that are already playing

One of the mmo devs for a game I play did that. Game was unplayable for all of Christmas. They are never doing that again.

Duolingo isn't a way to learn a language, in my opinion. It is really helpful, but I don't remember new things from duo lessons. It's only helpful to remember stuff I've learnt in actual language lessons. I've gotten better at German since I started duolingo but I haven't learnt anything new.
