I've been thinking of finally reading some Stephen King, but no idea where to start.

Go for one of the likes of his famous work, like the Shining or the Green Mile? Or something lesser known?

@fskornia @bookstodon Predominantly fantasy, with literary and historical fiction thrown in. I do like horror in terms of film, but never actually read any fiction

@bhalpin @bookstodon Perfect, thanks. I think I'd probably prefer a novel over a short story collection, so possibly do one of those after an initial novel.

@flyblue @bookstodon Haha fair. I've heard a lot of good things about The Stand

@mattjhodgkinson @bookstodon I absolutely loved the film adaptation, so it's definitely tempting to start there and I'm sure it's different to the movie.

@acatwholovesyou @fskornia @bookstodon And a bit of sci-fi/Fantasy thrown in from what I gather. Definitely one for consideration. Thanks!

@Rhube @bookstodon Thanks! I've heard a lot of good things about it, just feel potentially a standalone would be best for me at the moment.

@fskornia @bookstodon Thanks so much for this! A really good rundown. I'm tempted to start with a horror, given he's renowned for it, but will definitely keep the others in consideration!

@AndyT @flyblue @bookstodon All three sound great. Reading the synopsis, Joyland sounds like it could be a winner! Thanks for the recs!

@AndyT @flyblue @bookstodon Alas, I have the depressing nature of UK politics to deal with at the moment...

@fskornia @bookstodon Thanks! I may have to whittle down to a four and then set up a poll. I'm do indecisive haha!

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue was on my reading list for a long while, so great to have read it, especially after so much hype. My thoughts here.

My first series of Brandon Sanderson is complete, but has it lived up to the hype?

Just started the Iliad this morning and during the quarrel between Agamemnon and Achilles, the translator has decided to use the word "nincompoop"...

It's certainly a choice...
