Krafting OP , to Selfhosted in I got an old Cisco AP and I looked inside!
@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

Why not, old hardware can ne really cool you know! It's not for running 24/7 of course, just to sée what once was a cool and expensive product

Ooo, that'd be fun, and scary, I never done such a thing, maybe I could look at this some day !

@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

Of course and I tried to search it, didn't find the download on the Cisco website sadly, nor the md5sum for this specific file, I found some other sums tho.

Cisco has a tendancy to remove download or block them behing an account with a licence...

Krafting , to Selfhosted in Electricians of fediverse, should I have my selfhosting box grounded?
@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

Other question for anyone listening here: How can we check if an outlet is correctly grounded ? I live in a faily new appartment with good outlets, but maybe I should make sure they are OK ?

Krafting OP , to Selfhosted in RAID Card temperature
@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

I might try it, but for now I don't really want to put the server offline for a test ahah, I'll try to get info about this port tho.

Krafting OP , to Selfhosted in RAID Card temperature
@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

There is a SAS connector on the Motherboard, but I have 12 drives and I'm unsure if it would work. Nothing gets reported in the OS as another RAID controller on the OS.

I thought about plain HBA too, but if I can avoid putting money for now ahah

Firmware is the latest, I try to keep my systems up-to-date as much as possible!

@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

How hot ? and what model ? is it the same ?

Krafting OP , to Selfhosted in RAID Card temperature
@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

This is exaclty what I think too. But does anyone have tested this and is the theory same as in reality?

Backup up is not an issue of course! Restoring either, 10GB cards at the rescue!

Krafting OP , to Selfhosted in RAID Card temperature
@Krafting@lemmy.world avatar

well, it is the hottest part of the server, everything else run at 40-45C. Also, this temperature mean the fan spin up a bit too much for my tast, this is why I want to lower the temperature!

The temperature doesn't cause performance issue, it just cause the fans to speed up, plus this make my room hotter.
Sometime the raid card runs at 60-65C too.

This looks really promising, I can't wait for people to put GNU/Linux on it!

I use grafana that gets data from a Zabbix server and also a proxmox exporter for prometheus, most VM also have a zabbix agent, mainly to monitor disk usage.

I have my eyes on some fiber channel stuff that got decomissionned, I'll probably try something with that

Keep in mind they are refurbished tho! They will work fine, but they also have a lot of hours on them too!

But you're welcome! They do offer some sweet deals!
