Remembering the ethnic cleansing, massacres and Zionist terrorism that lead to the creation of #Israel which remains to this day a pariah state and a plague on the Middle East and the world.
Israel's attempt to criminalize discussing the #Nakba, the displacement of Palestinians during its establishment in 1948, is deeply concerning. Labeling such discourse as incitement or support for terrorism poses a grave threat to acknowledging historical truths. For lasting peace in the region, there must be an open reckoning with the tragic events surrounding Israel's birth – events that by design led to the dispossession and suffering of the Palestinian people. This was not mere accident, but an ongoing mission that today’s neo-Zionist ideologues have molded into a [quasi-]religious crusade.
The path to reconciliation demands bringing these realities to light, especially among Israelis. Suppressing discussion of the 1948 violence and its enduring impacts will only entrench the injustices and prolong the conflict. True and lasting peace requires earnest dialogue, historical accounting, and a mutual understanding of the disproportionate losses borne by Palestinians. Silencing these narratives through criminalization is antithetical to the justice and healing that both peoples deserve.
@oatmeal Israel's U.S. defenders say we must stand up for Israel at all costs because it is the Middle East's only true democracy. Problem is, it is fucking well not acting like one. @palestine@histodons@israel@academicchatter
#EU / We Condemn the Israeli Lawmaker Calling for a Second 'Nakba'
"Right now: one goal: Nakba! A Nakba that will overshadow the Nakba of 48. Nakba in Gaza and Nakba to anyone who dares to join" —— MK Ariel Kallner, head for the Knesset delegation for relations with the European Parliament [October 7, 2023]
[…] We would like to remind MK Kallner of the EU's firm and steady position that all settlements in Palestinian territory are illegal under international law and the EU will not recognise any changes to the pre-1967 borders, including in Jerusalem, other than those agreed by both sides.
[…] We remind MK Kallner and all Israeli officials of their obligations under international law, including the protection of civilians in armed conflict. We also would like to remind MK Kallner that the indiscriminate use of force and the targeting of civilian infrastructure in Gaza are clear violations of these legal obligations, and any attempts to justify or condone such actions are unacceptable.
[…] This is why we ask the Knesset leadership to appoint a new head of the Knesset delegation for the relations with the European Parliament, unless MK Kallner apologizes for these comments and deletes his despicable tweets.
According to the UN, the number of Palestinian #refugees, who were expelled from Palestinian villages and cities during the #Nakba to Gaza, is approximately 1.4 million out of a total population of over 2 million, constituting two-thirds of the population in the besieged enclave, which has been suffering a new Israeli Nakba for the past seven months.
Rajha Abu Khalifa is one of many refugees in Gaza, who are older than Israel.
"I can no longer in good conscience continue to represent this administration amid President Biden's disastrous, continued support for #Israel 's genocide in Gaza."
