Not great! What was supposed to be a regular biweekly update with my team lead turned into me hearing I'm being let go. The company is dissolving my position. Apparently because they believe everything I did to set up data pipelines and structures is so solid they just need someone to maintain it now (which will be a third party).

I definitely saw myself working there for a few years, now I'm back to looking for a job after just 1 year. Feels unfair and all the 'it's not personal, we love you as a colleague' is definitely not helping at all.

At least I won't have to come out to them which I was dreading... I'll just introduce myself with new pronouns at the next job ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: forgot to mention that the worst part of this to me is definitely this week where we're still discussing details/severance etc. and I can't tell my direct colleagues yet. So here I am pretending everything is fine and I'm not actually super depressed about it until I can finally tell them next Tuesday.

I'm excited and stressed at the same time. It's been such a ride and the day hasn't even happened yet. Idk if I'll be happier during or when it's finally done. Either way, definitely looking forward to both the wedding day and to decompressing afterwards

Good recommendations! I'd suggest doing some spacy tutorials as well, regarding the topics in the first paragraph. But arguably it's possible nowadays to just start at transformers without any NLP knowledge, e.g. using huggingface's AutoTrain or something similar. I wouldn't recommend it, but you definitely could.

I work 36 hours so 4 or 5 days every other week. I love my biweekly free Monday we get so silly with it :3
I'd take 4 days a week every week for the same money tho hehe

(EDIT: Sadness canceled, read edit) Although relatable, I feel sad beehaw wants to leave lemmy (+ I propose talking to the inital sponsor of lemmy development to get moderation issues fixed)

EDIT: as one of the admins explained below, they plan to migrate to something whitch uses ActivityPub, which means that my concerns are gone. I liked the interactions between servers who are equally wholesome compared to beehaw, which will be possible after the migration because of ActivityPub. So therefore, my sadness is...

Great idea I think! I had no idea this was actually a Dutch org, but it makes sense given the name lol.

@ admins if you are willing to consider this, feel free to give me a shout if you want help reaching out to them (I'm Dutch). I assume their English will be fine, but I could help translate if there is ever a need :) (could even visit them in Amsterdam, potentially)
