#EU / We Condemn the Israeli Lawmaker Calling for a Second 'Nakba'
"Right now: one goal: Nakba! A Nakba that will overshadow the Nakba of 48. Nakba in Gaza and Nakba to anyone who dares to join" —— MK Ariel Kallner, head for the Knesset delegation for relations with the European Parliament [October 7, 2023]
[…] We would like to remind MK Kallner of the EU's firm and steady position that all settlements in Palestinian territory are illegal under international law and the EU will not recognise any changes to the pre-1967 borders, including in Jerusalem, other than those agreed by both sides.
[…] We remind MK Kallner and all Israeli officials of their obligations under international law, including the protection of civilians in armed conflict. We also would like to remind MK Kallner that the indiscriminate use of force and the targeting of civilian infrastructure in Gaza are clear violations of these legal obligations, and any attempts to justify or condone such actions are unacceptable.
[…] This is why we ask the Knesset leadership to appoint a new head of the Knesset delegation for the relations with the European Parliament, unless MK Kallner apologizes for these comments and deletes his despicable tweets.

‘What’s happening is not genocide’: #Biden criticizes #ICC for seeking arrest warrants for #Israel officials – as it happened
[Live blog for May 20 - now closed, but still available]
Outlook is pro-Israel (no surprise), but has many quotes of reactions from [#Israeli politicians and experts about the ICC prosecutor's request for arrest warrants.]
#Israel / Gallant at a Likud Meeting: "We Are Continuing Begin's Path - Not Ben Gvir's"
Seems to me Gallant is trying to distance himself from genocidal #Kahanism, which for all intents and purposes is now embedded in the #Likud party.
Gallant was attempting to explain his position following a speech in which he criticized the party chairman, PM Netanyahu. Explaining why he opposes military rule in #Gaza, he said:
"We don't have enough soldiers for that, [...] I am against a Palestinian state. There should be neither #Hamas nor Israel there, [...] We are continuing Begin's path, not Ben Gvir's - we have values, and I suggest we don't forget that we represent all Israelis (תנועה ממלכתית)."
#ICC / Prosecutor asks for arrest warrants for three leading Hamas leaders, as well ass Netanyahu and Galant
[...] The office of the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court on Monday said it was seeking arrest warrants against three leading Hamas militants for their alleged roles in the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Watch: ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan explains the charges against top Hamas and Israeli leadership in detail in this excerpt from his interview with @amanpour this morning at The Hague
[cont'd] Why we support ICC prosecutions for crimes in Israel and Gaza
Lord Justice Fulford, Judge Theodor Meron CMG, Amal Clooney, Danny Friedman KC, Baroness Helena Kennedy LT KC, Elizabeth Wilmshurst CMG KC
A unanimous legal rationale for supporting the #ICC prosecutor's pursuit of war crimes charges against both Palestinian and Israeli leaders, based on an assessment of evidence against international law standards.

The charges are not about the reasons for the conflict itself, but rather the manner in which the war was waged in violation of international laws governing armed conflicts.
[cont'd] France backs 'independence' of ICC after prosecutor seeks arrest warrants for Israel, Hamas leaders
France states it will be up to the #ICC's pre-trial chamber to decide whether to actually issue the requested arrest warrants after examining the prosecutor's evidence. This contrasts with the stance of the US, where President Joe Biden called the legal step against Israeli officials "outrageous."

[cont'd] Sanders Statement on ICC Seeking Arrest Warrants for Israeli and Hamas Leaders
[...] The #ICC prosecutor is right to take these actions. These arrest warrants may or may not be carried out, but it is imperative that the global community uphold international law. Without these standards of decency and morality, this planet may rapidly descend into anarchy, never-ending wars, and barbarism.
[cont'd]Ynet is citing "sources" claiming efforts between Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Congress, emboldened by stern statements from President Biden and Secretary Blinken, to rapidly advance bipartisan "lightning" legislation that would impose sanctions on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Karim Khan, and others involved in the investigation into Israel's activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The proposed sanctions reportedly include bans on entry to the U.S., closure of bank accounts, and the consideration of extending these punitive measures to even family members of those targeted.
According to Ynet's sources, the U.S. is seeking to deter the ICC from issuing arrest warrants against Israeli officials through this expedited legislation, hence the urgency to approve it soon. However, "there are concerns" that the legislation could stall due to "unrelated political considerations in Congress."

#Palestine / Thought to be delivering aid to Gaza: They set a truck on fire, attacked the driver - and wounded two officers and a fighter
Dozens of Israel settlers attacked a truck driver in Benjamin, assuming it was carrying humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The driver was moderately injured.
A force that was rushed to the scene tried to separate the assailants from the driver and provide him with medical treatment, but the IDF said they responded with violence and lightly wounded the soldiers.
The attack on the driver and the torching of the truck joins the recent disruption actions by activists of the "Order 9" movement, who last week stopped humanitarian aid trucks arriving from Jordan, spilled their contents and even set some of them on fire.https://kolektiva.social/@oatmeal/112447165098405044
The international community considers Israeli settlements to be illegal, but the state of Israel disputes this, and this applies to all communities under the administration of Mateh Binyamin.
[cont’d] "I saw death": Mr. al-Razem was attacked by dozens, because they thought he was leading aid to Gaza
Israeli media doesn’t often bother to mention the names of victims of Jewish terrorism of this sort.
Suffering from broken ribs and a broken nose, Ibrahim al-Razem is still hospitalized at Shaare Zedek, two days after he was attacked by protesters who believed he was carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. "They unloaded the goods - and burned them together with the truck. The soldiers stood by, I'm in shock," he recounts in a conversation with Ynet, "I have never hurt anyone in my life, I'm just doing my job."
