UK general election sees RECORD NUMBER of candidates stand.

4,519 parliamentary candidates have been nominated to stand on 4 July. The previous record was 4,150, in 2010.

A black and white photograph of a leaflet that has "Protest" as the title, followed by these bullet points: about the Ugliness of Living, polluted water and air, congestion in our cities, destruction of the countryside and wild life, excessive noise from cars and plans. This is followed by this paragraph: "Some say you've never had it so good when all the time the quality of life gets worse. It's high time more people protested about the lack of effective action. You can't depend on Governments whether Labour or Tory to defend your interests. They are busy looking after the big battalion boys"
