Define “pariah state”:

[…] Unlike rogue states, pariah states do not have a fixed definition, but only characteristics that indicate possible violations. These include, above all, the production and use of weapons of mass destruction, tolerating terrorism, a lack of freedom of expression and democracy and violations of human rights. Unlike rogue states, a pariah state does not necessarily pose a threat to other states. Instead, the grievances are often directed only against one's own population.

/ Hotel in Japan to Israeli tourist: "We will not be able to accommodate you due to reports of war crimes by the IDF"

It's noteworthy, though unsurprising, that Ambassador Gilad Cohen assumes the recipient is unaware of the accusations of war crimes leveled against Israel's military and political leadership for their response to the attack. Time did not stand still on October 7th for anyone, except perhaps in Israel itself.

[cont’d] they don’t get it. They really don’t.

From an interview is with Alik Cohen, who is the VP of Sales at the Israeli company (one of the many Israeli companies monetizing the skills and technology developed to maintain Israel’s apartheid regime and occupation), which develops communication products for security forces. Sialynx intended to participate in an arms exhibition in Paris, France.

[…] “People in the industry, as opposed to ordinary people on the street, understand much better what the situation is. That is, within an exhibition like this, the support for Israel is very high. These are people who understand what is happening here, understand what we're dealing with, and many of them view us as the gateway to Europe, as the guardians protecting Europe."

When Europe's colonial history and interventions in the Middle East is considered, including the consequential role European powers played in establishing as a state on Palestinian land - an action that directly contributed to the displacement of more than 750,000 Palestinians and sowed the seeds for the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict - it becomes highly ironic for Israel to position itself as a "protector" of Europe against Middle Eastern turmoil. Might be cheaper for Europe to force Israel to end the occupation.

    [cont’d]

Benny Landa, who was born in Canada and immigrated to Israel in the late 1970s, is described as a pioneer of the Israeli tech industry. He made his fortune selling Indigo to HP, and recently showcased his latest digital printing machines at a major printing industry event in .

He tells Globes business news site:

[…] "Not long ago, I had a conversation with one of the potential European distributors of the product. He told me: 'If you think you're going to manufacture this in Israel - forget about it, Israel is becoming a pariah state.' It was shocking. And this was said by a senior, reliable person who is very knowledgeable. We are in a very sensitive position right now, and anyone who thinks that what is happening now is not the biggest threat to Israel's economy is mistaken."

In the interview Globes correspondent Assaf Gilad repeatedly undermines Israel’s war crimes in , yet Landa expresses major concerns about Israel's economic future due to the ongoing conflict. He believes if Israel's trade and ability to attract investment is severely damaged, it could cripple the economy and national security. The world increasingly views Israel through a lens of Palestinian suffering.

He argues the only long-term solution is separating into two states for Israelis and Palestinians, otherwise Israel risks becoming a bi-national Israeli-Palestinian entity against its wishes. However, he is pessimistic about influencing the government on this issue.

Landa's core mission now is growing Israeli industry and hitech employment to contribute 2% of GDP during his lifetime, but fears this may not be possible given current conflicts deterring investment and trade.

I've always wondered, if Israel and Palestine become 2 separate states, will we see the same chaos as when India and Pakistan split?

@rjohnston personally I’m not optimistic… to be honest

@rjohnston @oatmeal @israel @palestine no, it will be much more chaotic. I would expect Israeli settlers who would need to relinquish stolen homes going absolutely postal. And let's not forget Israel has the Sampson directive...and the nukes to back it up
