Squizzy , in THE HEART PART 6 - DRAKE (Kendrick Diss)

Its fuck Drake all the way down but he is missing out on hitting hard on Kendricks support for abusers like Kodak Black XXXtentacion and RKelly. In that aspect there is not way Kendrick is not a hypocrite.

steeznson ,

There is some nuance to the R Kelly thing. From what I understand the issue he had was that Spotify were delisting tracks from notable black abusers but not touching any of the white abuser backcatalogues. However, the nuance wouldn't really matter to make a good rebuttal in a track.

Drake sounds tired in this track tbh. Suspect this might be the last thing he releases.

Squizzy ,

Granted but he could have said delist the chili peppers not if you delist RKelly I will pull my music. Bur your point is taken.

He is definitely tired, he is probably worried about where this goes more than anything else.

Okay, so you addressed everything. But is it enough to change the momentum? I don't think so. He needs to drop another track.

Zane , in Hip-Hop Heads!

Why do you feel the need to defend mediocre artist who has demonstrated that he has a complete inability to learn and grow past his horrific behaviour? Hip Hop is littered with abusive, mysoginistic, violent arseholes and each one of them should be called out.

If you're specifically worried about people talking about how Chris Brown is an abuser, but not Eminem, you can rest easy in the knowledge that he has justifiably been criticised for his behaviour for the entirety of his career. The difference is Eminem never swept any of it under the rug, nor did he shy away from speaking about his problems with drugs and mental health, and the harm he caused because of it, specifically to the women around him.

The same cannot be said for abusers like Bambaataa, his defender KRS, NAS, Dre, Puff Daddy, Chris Brown or any of the other countless motherfuckers who use their money and position within the hip hop community to avoid criticism and consequences for their abhorrent behaviour.

JimboDHimbo , in [Explicit] Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. [03:03 | Rap, West Coast Rap, Pop Rap, Hardcore Rap, Hip-Hop, Conscious Hip-Hop, Trap]

No disrespect, but this isn't Trap, neither was that song by Eminem and Logic.Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the Southern United States, with lyrical references to trap starting in 1991 but the modern sound of trap appearing in 1999. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang term "trap house", a house used exclusively to sell drugs.

Trap also applies to a subgenre or EDM now, but my point is putting "conscious rap" and "trap" as the genres of the same song is a bit of an oxymoron, unless they are rapping about selling drugs that expand your consciousness.

If the daughter thing isn't true, the whole track doesn't hit for me. But we'll see, the truth will come to light.

I'm least concerned about the daughter thing, moreso the pedo ring stuff.

It's a weird one for me, because if he's lying or wrong about the child, why would he be write about anything else?

I will say this though, Kendrick's calling Drake a master manipulator, but the way he dropped the allegation that Drake is harbouring a pedophile and using his position in the industry to solicit sex from hopeful women is being heard as Drake is a pedophile, isn't that a masterfully manipulated stroke of genius?

jimmydoreisalefty , in Eminem - Houdini [Official Music Video]
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

“Houdini” serves as the lead single to Eminem’s twelfth studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). The track is named after Harry Houdini, a popular magician known for his death-defying stunts like the Chinese Water Torture Cell, which Eminem replicates in the intro to his 1999 track, “Role Model.”

With the return of long-time collaborator Jeff Bass of the Bass Brothers, Eminem revisits his catchy albeit morbid sound of the early 2000s. This fanfare track sees him callback to his old catchphrases such as Shady’s iconic “Guess who’s back?” line from the 2002 track “Without Me.”. The backing track for the song is also taken from the song [Abracadabra] written by the Steve Miller Band in 1973.

On October 24th, 1926, Houdini tragically passed away in Detroit, Michigan at the age of 52. Interestingly, Detroit is also the hometown of Eminem, who turns 52 in October 2024.

The single was first teased by Eminem on May 20, 2024, when he posted a teaser to his social media accounts with a text message from “All Contacts” stating:

…and for my last trick!

The text message would also have a date of May 31, sparking rumours of Eminem releasing music on that day.

On May 28, 2024, Eminem would post a video to Instagram of him on a FaceTime call with magician David Blaine. At the end of the video, Eminem announced the release of “Houdini” on May 31, then closed out by stating “for my last trick, I’m gonna make my career disappear,” hinting at The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) being his final studio album.

I'm actually not sure if he is working with Bass again. The song is produced by Eminem and long-time collaborator Luis Resto.
Bass is listed alongside all writers of Without Me as a writer for this track, which is probably because it heavily interpolates from that song.

jimmydoreisalefty OP , in Macklemore x Ryan Lewis "WINGS" Official Music Video [05:32 | Rap, Alternative hip hop]
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

"Wings” (stylized as “Wing$”) explores the consumerism that Macklemore feels plagues not only the youth but everyone in American Society: The idea that your worth as a person is intrinsically linked to the monetary worth of the items you own and the reliance on materialistic items to fit in.

This old Nike commercial is a perfect example of how Nike convinced people if they buy their expensive sneakers, they will be better basketball players. This commercial had been aired when Michael Jordan was in his prime and many people idolized him. Their marketing strategy succeeded and later created what is known today as “sneakerheads”.
