Fediverse

I dunno how many here have given it a try yet, or simply don't ever intend to but are nevertheless a little curious, so I'm putting down some notes here....

If the spirit of the fediverse is to spread everything across small instances, then i think it would be really important to make communities, especially niche communities, easier to discover across instances. Since it is not planned to crawl federated instances community catalog, i think instance admins, or maybe even the lemmy...

I recently finished the episode of The Verge's podcast #Decoder with the interview to Bluesky's CEO and it seems a quite interesting project....

Discoverability in this context meaning the ability to more effectively find public communities/people of interest. Alongside improving this however, respecting people's decisions on whether and how they may be found, if at all.

By novel I mean not emulating an existing popular platform, e.g. Lemmy-Reddit, Mastodon-Twitter, etc.

The mods of all the major communities there remove comments criticism Hexbear and usually follow it up with a ban. It's absolutely clear what is happening and it shouldn't be allowed to continue.

I'm trying to find an android mastodon app that can handle links from outside the app and open them in the app. Tusky is not going to implement this feature request and I haven't seen anything from the official app nor Fedilab....

Harry Potter Fandoms will be a part of the Fediverse one way or the other. It’s better to shape this development rather than being overwhelmed by it....

Mastodon is a great platform. I have an account there, and I have been using it as a twitter replacement for several months. I have been using nostr for around two months. I have also read fairly deeply into how Mastodon and Nostr work. I think nostr is better. Here's why....

I think it's pretty safe to say that the majority of us are here to avoid another corporate takeover of our preferred platforms. It would seem to me to be a tad irresponsible to allow Facebook into our space with open arms, allowing them to hoover up our data. I would love to keep using Lemmy.world, but will happily change...

I saw this post from !twoxchromosomes, and I wanted to share it here to get more discussion because it is important. I'm hoping that this post won't crowd out any voices, and while I've tried to keep this post productive and inclusive, please call out any concerns and use the post if you prefer :)...

I prefer good faith discussions please. I love the Fediverse and love what it can be long term. The problem is that parts of the culture want nothing to do with financial aspect. Many are opposed to ads, memberships, sponsorships etc...

Presumably this is due to recent actions regarding adblockers over at Youtube....

I hope this is the right community to post in....

I read on reddit that on Lemmy you can see users' upvote/downvote history. I therefore expected to be able to see upvote/downvote breakdown by user for my own comments. But couldn't find this. Does this feature exist or is that a myth?

I think now is a great time to remind everyone, like sync's developer, Lemmy's developers need to be paid too! The amount of time all the devs put into making lemmy exist, in my opinion, should be worth some of your money. If you can afford it, donating to the people who develop lemmy and/or the people keeping your home instance...

Just a little rant. When I first visited Lemmy Sites a couple of months ago it felt empty. Besides the really mainstream community pretty much everything else just felt empty....

My Problems with Mastodon...

I want to respond to writing prompts, but from a separate account. That way, if someone enjoys a story, they can scroll through my (alt account's) history for more writing without needing to dig through all of the dramatic, vitriolic, shit-stirring my main account will be regularly diving into....

For the most part it's borderline child porn or stable diffusion spam. There should be an option to opt out of content from specific instances on account level.

With several Lemmy instances using the .ml TLD I’ve seen people mention others being risky as well. Which should be avoided?

Created on June 1 of this year, lemmy.world quickly grew to 51k users and then blew up after reddit's API debacle on July 1, doubling to a whopping 100k in just 9 days later!
