@undefined_variable@actuallyautistic i'm in a similar shoe rn, i've made my account like a month ago and still kinda exploring. one thing you could do is search for tags that interest you - if you're persistent you are ought to find people who have similar interests; obviously if you search for more general tags, there will be more posts to filter through.
i find the 'explore the fediverse' feed useful too, where it just loads up posts from all over the fedi (that's how i found your post:)).
and once you find a few people to follow, you can see what they interact with, check out the accounts they boost & check the notes on interesting posts. imo that is the best way to find like-minded people.
i feel like making an account on a nice instance can also help you start up; i think where i'm from (wafrn) is a really nice place and i can recommend.
