"My own opinion is that #Hermes gave #Amphion these gifts, both the [magical] lyre and the headband, because he was overcome by love for him.
And the chlamys he wears, perhaps that also came from Hermes; for its colour does not remain the same but changes and takes on all the hues of the rainbow."
Philostratus the Elder, Imagines 1.10
"[Dionysos] cut the thickest branch from a fig tree, smoothed and crafted it into a male member, fixed it to the grave, exposed his buttocks, lowered himself and inserted it. In his horniness he moved his buttocks to suffer from the wood what he had promised."
Arnobius of Sicca Adversus gentes 5.28

You've heard all about the 'brilliant men' of ancient myth, but what about the scheming and scandalous women who were so often lost in their shadow? Bad Girls of Ancient Greece contains profiles of wayward wives, mad mothers, scandalous sisters and damsels, that quite frankly, caused others A LOT of stress in the ancient world.
In both ancient Greek and Latin "Hephaistos' breath" is a poetic way to say fire and often the god's name was used as a synonym for the element. Even iron, "hardest of all things", is softened by fire and melts through the strength of #Hephaistos.
I wrote a whole article on #Hestia and Hephaistos, the gods of fire in #GreekMythology which is free to read on my website:

I read that in Hindu #mythology, Agni, the god of fire is married both to the goddess Svaha and the male Moon god Soma with Agni having a receptive role in this relationship and tha fire (agni) and water (soma), determined the gender of a child. Anyone know if this #bisexual marriage really is a thing in Hindu mythology?

"Beardless #Ampelos, they say, a Nymph's and a Satyr's son, was loved by #Bacchus [Dionysos] on Ismarian hills. He trusted him with a vine hanging from the leaves of an elm; it is now named for the boy. The reckless youth fell picking gaudy grapes on a branch. Liber [#Dionysos] lifted the lost boy to the stars." #Ovid, Fasti 3.407

A man was chopping wood by a river when he dropped his axe into the water. #Hermes took pity on him and presented a golden axe, then a silver axe, asking each time whether it was his. The man said no. Then Hermes showed him the lost axe and when he recognized it, Hermes gifted him all of the axes.

"But the god changed into a dreadful lion there on the ship and roared loudly: And so the sailors fled into the stern and crowded about the helmsman, until suddenly the lion sprang upon the master and seized him; and when the sailors saw it they leapt overboard into the bright sea."

#OTD, 15 May, it's the #Mercuralia, a Roman festival in honour of Mercurius in his function as god of commerce. This year it coincides with the birthday of Apollon. #Hermes and #Apollon are half-brothers and love each other dearly:
"And Hermes loved the son of Leto continually, even as he does now."

"Note that the ancients used the word phlyein (to luxuriate) of an abundant yield of fruit. So they called #Dionysos Phleon (the luxuriant), Protrygaios (the first at the vintage), Staphylites (the god of the grape), Omphakites (the god of the unripe grape), and various other #epithets."

Hey, neat! Thank you! It's an "imagination engine" - the original mod @Arotrios kbin.social wrote a detailed description here.
I never really fully got my head around it but it seems to be a combination of art, poetry, music, cinema, mythology, etc and a lot of the posts in it bounce off other posts in it.
What some Lemmy communities that are dead or very low number of new posts that you would like to get more active?
