The fate of the 120 remaining hostages in is crucial to any deal to end the protracted and bloody conflict between Israel and . But a senior Hamas official has told CNN that “no one has an idea” how many of them are alive, and that any deal to release them must include guarantees of a permanent ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

@RememberUsAlways @palestine @israel howw can one negotiate with Hamas? Actually this reminds me of the old movie adage, “we don’t negotiate with terrorists”.

I admit negotiation with terrorists is disgusting but Hamas understands its the only equity they have to extract demands.

@RememberUsAlways @palestine @israel the problem isn’t that it’s just disgusting. The problem is after you make a deal accepting their terms, free 80 hostages and withdraw from Gaza completely, they may suddenly say “oh look! we just found 30 more hostages here in this basement, wanna make yet another deal?”
How does one manage that?

It's a fantastic question.

Once the hostage exchange begins in faith between two parties, the terms expand with the level of trust established.

Last year, a 6 week ceasefire was agreed upon and many hostages were released. Hamas refused to release more so the war continues until today.

This is likely the two possible working scenarios based on your hypothetical. A great question 👍
