SolarPunker , in Linux-only (ex-)LOL players: what did you swap to after Vanguard landed?

Suggestion from an old Dota player: play better games. Mobas are just competitive stuff without artistic value.

Why did you dont l'île Dota 2?

oldfemboy OP ,

The gameplay. The controls. The item shop.

nickwitha_k , in Linux-only (ex-)LOL players: what did you swap to after Vanguard landed?

I don't play competitive multiplayer anymore. Not enough time to keep skills sharp and there's so much more that I want to do.

leo85811nardo ,

I agree. Competitive games just bring the toxicity out of me. Plus, all the skill gained will become nothing one day with a balance patch just because the devs and publishers want to "keep the game live for longer"

Glad to see the VRR being worked on with the dock. I've had to disable it when I am playing on my TV for now because it keeps turning off and on over and over

It's a good excuse to quit league, one less player is a win

Iirc Smite turned off their EAC Linux Restriction awhile ago, might be worth looking into.

Haven't tested it at all though, so ymmv

Some people report issues https://www.protondb.com/app/386360
but Smite 2 is releasing next month. I assume it will work on Linux, so I plan to give it a go.

You can play HotS without Battle.net, you'll just have to input your credentials manually whenever you start the game. Alternatively, contrary to Steam, you can just kill Battle.net after it has updated and launched the game.

BaalInvoker , in Linux-only (ex-)LOL players: what did you swap to after Vanguard landed?

I'm on Insurgency.

Not the Sandstorm, the classical Insurgency

PumpkinEscobar , in Linux-only (ex-)LOL players: what did you swap to after Vanguard landed?

Battle.net running in bottles works Ok. I did have an issue with battle.net running under X for a while, switching to Wayland worked. Whatever the problem was seems to have been fixed

demonsword ,

battle.net works ok on lutris too, using the latest proton GE as runner

I don't think that's the job of Valve.
They tried to push Linux gaming a decade ago by providing a Linux distribution optimized for gaming and invited hardware vendors to sell machines with that distri.

At that time a gaming optimized distribution was hardly needed, so they were pioneers at the time.
And they still maintain their SteamOS, although it is only supported on Steam Decks.

But there has so many happened since then. Gaming Hardware is working from Day 1 with Linux. Proton - wich is supported by Valve - is supporting latest games on Linux, mostly from Day 1. At least if the developers don't actively sabotage it.
As a result we don't have that one SteamOS distribution which would ultimately put us in dependece from Valve. We have several different gaming optimized distributions that you can use.

It's great that Valve does so much for Linux gaming, but I don't want them to manage everything.

It's not important, but there is no connection between the original Steam OS and there new one. The original was an Ubuntu derivative, and there new one is an Arch derivative.

"Fixed random colors appearing at the periphery of the right eye's viewable area." Finally, nice to see long-term bugs being addressed. Still waiting for reprojection fixes, after those I think I'll finally be able to ditch Windows
