I'm trying to read This Is How You Lose The Time War, but I'm struggling to understand what is going on, and I'm not sure if it gets better. It feels like a dense read. I heard so much about it, but perhaps I'm too impatient?

@dilmandila @bookstodon When I got to the end, I turned right back to the beginning and started again.

In part this was because I loved it so much.
In part this was because I needed to see how the pieces fit together with the fuller perspective.

Persistence is worthwhile.

@dilmandila @bookstodon I’ve read it & thought it was sort of OK - but I wasn’t going ‘Wow’. We are allowed not to agree with all the rave reviews without thinking there’s something wrong with us 😉

@strathearnrose @dilmandila @bookstodon I was underwhelmed and didn't finish it. I wasn't really in the mood for it and other library patrons were waiting for it. Might try it again someday, but I like my fiction a lot weirder, mostly.

@KateOfMind @strathearnrose @bookstodon Just read how it got attention and it seems to be from a single influencer.... But well, I hear they are developing a TV series out of it. That might actually work better since with TV they have to emphasize the visual elements and this might help with getting into the story. I failed to get a sense of place which is one reason I couldn't get into the story.

@dilmandila @bookstodon I ended up enjoying that book more as it went on and the context became more clear. I loved it by the end but it took a while to get me there.

@dilmandila @bookstodon I struggled too, along with others in a reading group. Personally wished I hadn't bothered and nobody gave it unstinting praise, so you are not alone.

@RHW @dilmandila @bookstodon individual taste, then. I loved it, thought it was one of the best things I have read in years. The confusion and being hard to follow are necessary side effects of both of them continually messing with the time line.
100 Years of Solitude and Catch-22 are the same there.
But don't feel bad about not liking it. Put it down and move on to another book!

@dilmandila @bookstodon if you're not enjoying it as sappy poetry you probably won't care much about the story itself.
