Celebrating a paradoxical 11/10 rating of my story The Last Philosopher by Spookyspackles on RoyalRoad 🥳
But who knows what could have been if I had only given 120% instead of the standard 110% 😂
Anyway, the story is free to read, links can be found on my profile, thanks and sorry 😁
Rakesfall, a new novel by Vajra Chandrasekera, author of the excellent, nebula award winning: The Saint of Bright Doors, is about to be published on the 18th of June.
It is now available for preorder on audible for $8.80.
This sale price is available until the 17th of June.
I'm trying to read This Is How You Lose The Time War, but I'm struggling to understand what is going on, and I'm not sure if it gets better. It feels like a dense read. I heard so much about it, but perhaps I'm too impatient?
Dang, y'all, I know I'm late to the party, but in case anyone else is even later than me, @vajra 's Saint of Bright Doors is ASTONISHINGLY GOOD.
Or, at least, the first half is. I presume the second half is too, but I haven't finished it yet. It has definitely shot to the top of my Hugo best novel ranking. (One more to read!)
Jagannath by Karen Tidbeck is on the Audible Plus catalog at the moment.
This is a great introduction to Tidbeck's work. Usually I pause between short stories in a collection by the same author, the same way I pause between books by the same author, so the reading doesn't get monotonous.
Karen Tidbeck's work is different enough to keep me excited at every twist and turn.
Weird, Dark, thought provoking, familiar enough yet different.
Reading #AncestralNight by #ElizabethBear. I haven't read anything by her previously. It took a little while to get into, as is sometimes the case with Science Fiction, but some 80 pages in I'm liking it. #SFF@bookstodon
Author copies arrived of this bulky anthology of African ghost stories. Now I can say that my story was published in the same book as the legend, Amos Tutuola!
The author mentions that it's less like its Sandman origin (which is one of the most horrific parts of the series aside from the diner, imo). But I think that's because it's based more on the spinoff comics (which seemed very YA to me). I still loved it & feel like it marries the two.
Plus it starts leaning more into some horror in the third episode 🤷
Somewhat meh set of April reads, though The Night Tiger and The Hunter were definitely high points. Some fun romances by Alexis Hall and Cat Sebastian too.
10 authors, of whose books I've read at least five:
Ursula Le Guin
Kim Stanley Robinson
Octavia Butler
N. K. Jemisin
Becky Chambers
Iain M. Banks
Martha Wells
M. R. Carey
Lois McMaster Bujold
Vonda McIntyre

Spotlight on the troubled genius that was Jeffrey Catherine Jones (1944-2011). Some treasures of mine along with an excellent biography and more artwork at the link.
