It's a Saturday night/early Sunday morning in 1994. You've just returned home from a gig, stopping off for some junk food, to soak up the booze, on your way. You flick on the TV, adjust the antenna because the signal isn't that great sometimes, and switch on an overnight music video show....

Tom Waits is not afraid of going dark places with his song writing, but it hardly gets darker than this....
I couldn't believe that there's only been one MBV track posted here, so here's another from the seminal album, Loveless....
Great to see a good looking, HD version of this video....
Nice tune from Quivers who are from Melbourne, Australia. Having recently signed with Merge Records, they have released this single. There's a (not so subtle) nod to Pavement in there. There is also an album on the way....
Having noticed Sprints a little while back, and also enjoying their subsequent album, it's good to see and hear this KEXP set.

According to co-producer Phil Chapman, the recording sessions for the album took place in a studio whose air conditioning/heating vents were directly above the mixing console. Air from the vents blew directly into the faces of the control room personnel, so they often wore sunglasses to protect their eyes. Hart, working on a new...
I mentioned Miles Hunt in my previous She Makes War post. So I want to post a Wonder Stuff song....
I first got intro'd to the music of Laura Kidd AKA She Makes War, Penfriend and Obey Robots in about 2010. I didn't really take enough time to really listen to her stuff properly, so didn't get very engaged with her work....
This band is based in Bristol in the UK. They sound a lot like The Velvet Underground, so they also sound like Luna/Galaxie 500 and all the other VU influenced bands. There's also hints of Cowboy Junkies and Wilco on some songs and a little bit of Belle and Sebastian. Their discography is worth a listen, and they have a new...
I believe they are from Toronto. They are in my mental filing system next to The Sundays, Cocteaus and Innocence Mission. This is a lovely song....
one day while doing nothing particularly...
I haven't listened to this London band before, so will have to put them on the "to listen" playlist. I like this track....
A beautiful performance from Melbourne based artist, Gena Rose Bruce. I enjoy both of her albums that were released via Dot Dash Recordings. The most recent album has this interesting collaboration with Bill Callahan....
The debut single from a seminal Australian band of that era. This was released on the small indie label, Phantom Records and this video is for that release....
I have tix to an Alvvays show, next week. Loving life.
STROBE WARNING....
I'm pretty ignorant about English band Lanterns On The Lake, even though they have made 5 albums, one of them Mercury Prize nominated....
In 2001, I spent a couple of months hanging out in Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia. Vancouver punks, The Black Halos had recently released the album The Violent Years on Sub Pop and were having a "moment". This song was getting played a lot and is evocative of that time for me, along with a couple of other songs....
