NVAccess , in forum UI friction?
@NVAccess@rblind.com avatar

I have also not encountered the credentials going stale issue. It might be worth clearing your browser cache (remember when we had to do that to fix ANYTHING? I have barely needed to do that in the last year or so, but it comes up occasionally).

Re navigating, the list of posts works ok - you can press H to jump from one post to the next. When you actually go into a post, the UI breaks down a bit. Mostly because (for me at least), n doesn't seem to work to jump to the next non-linked text where it should (as in the body of motobojo's post, or any replies). The "Skip to content" button also doesn't seem to work - it comes up as the first item on the page, but you can't activate it?

fastfinge Mod , in forum UI friction?

the fact that credentials go stale immediately upon leaving.

One of our moderators is also having this problem. Unfortunately, I'm not, and no matter what I do, I can't replicate it. Once I log in, I stay logged in. So as the admin of the server, it's quite difficult for me to fix. Could you let me know what browser and version of Windows you're using? I'm not sure that will help, as I've tested on both Firefox and Edge on Windows 11, and stayed logged in for days at a time. But the more data the better!

about 9 downarrows to get to the the content.

So once you get to the h1, almost everything up until the content is a link or button. So in NVDA, you can just press n (skip to next block of text) once or twice, and you'll be there.

The reason we're still listed as Alpha is because we need someone to retheme Lemmy, and nobody has had the time or money to find and pay someone to do it. If you think screen readers are hard, try using Lemmy with screen magnification. It's not ideal. We'll be remaining in alpha until we can find a designer to work on these issues.

However, in the meantime, Thunder on IOS and android is an excellent mobile app for Lemmy. There are also a few desktop apps, but none of them are more accessible than the web interface yet.

motobojo OP ,

re: credentials rapidly stale
I'm using Edge browser on Win 10

re: NVDA nav tips for forum
Thanks for the tips. I haven't been using n much. I'll give that a try. Learn something new every day.

Have youi looked into WhatsApp? There are apparently ways to use it without a phone. I use both the cell phone app on my andoid phone and the Windows WhatsApp app. The Windows app is just "linked" to my cell phone. There are other ways though (apparently). Here's a link that might help.

Threema is very similar to Signal but doesn’t require a phone number. It does cost $/£/€ 5 though (but it’s one-time, and makes it less likely you’re true product).

Not sure about all the features you mentioned.

pax , in The Nonvisual Gaming Toolkit

rules and no doupt about it.
there's no other engine that's cool and powerful like that and yet apstracts a lot of bs.

fastfinge OP Mod ,

Also the features it ads are really nice. Cross-platform, SSL support, JSON, etc. If I actually had any game ideas, NVGT is what I'd use.

webPunk , in Positivity check - share your recent successes

I've been cigarette free (back to only vaping) for about two weeks.
Also, after procrastinating for awhile, I finally took a replacement fender for my car to a paint shop. Hoping to get it back within 1-2 weeks.

Good stuff. Mechanical and organic maintenance are great!

webPunk ,

Best wishes to you!

Bought new crutches today and got a shipped notification less than 30 min later.

MostlyBlindGamer OP Mod ,
@MostlyBlindGamer@rblind.com avatar

Nice! Are you replacing or upgrading?

VelvetStorm ,

Both. I have an old injury that is starting to hurt more and more, and I bought some cheap forearm crutches hoping it would stop hurting before the crutches got annoying. Well, it didn't, so im getting some actual nice ones. I never knew that some crutches could be so expensive. There was one brand that is almost 900 bucks.

MostlyBlindGamer OP Mod ,
@MostlyBlindGamer@rblind.com avatar

Oof, wow! Well, I hope they serve you well.

VelvetStorm ,

I'm super pozzy about it, so I appreciate you wishing me well!

Theblinddragon , in it appears Sonos is about to become less usable by screen reader users

you know, apparently I've been seeing on Reddit that even sighted people are hating the new update.

alllken , in Anyone use a linux distro?

I use Linux Mint. I'll look into Accessible Coconut out of curiosity.

Gamers_Mate OP ,

Nice a fellow Mint user.
How good do you find mint for accessibility?

kd0ess , in it appears Sonos is about to become less usable by screen reader users

@fastfinge @evilcookies98 I certainly hope not because I was actually thinking of getting a Sonos arc and air 300s…

@fastfinge Sonos likes to brick all of it's equipment. Good product, disappointing business model :/

VaultBoyNewVegas ,

Been my experience. I've a beam gen 2 and it's great sound but several days it'll randomly cut out with my TV and I've to force restart the TV. TV's earc and fully compatible.

fastfinge OP Mod ,

I dunno, the sub I got 9 years ago is still going strong. The play fives they quote unquote bricked still work on the s1, for Spotify connect and Apple Music. The only unusable equipment is some 20 year old zone controllers. Sonos stuff is supported for years longer than literally any other tech brand. And I’m sure I’ll get a pretty decent price when I start selling off my Sonos stuff on Tuesday.

alexisdyslexic ,
@alexisdyslexic@urbanists.social avatar

@fastfinge they tried to brick everything a few years ago and stop supporting older models but they got so much pushback that they walked back thier statement.
And it's very, very difficult to use or sell anything on the second market. I had a used sonos and they refused to help me make it work without some mysterious orginal factory pin number.

fastfinge OP Mod ,

I’ve sold two systems used with no issue. Just factory reset and it’s fine. Yes, I could lock the buyer out. Best thing to do is transfer system ownership to them in person. In a public place of course.

MostlyBlindGamer Mod , in connecting rblind Lemmy to mastodon with Mona?
@MostlyBlindGamer@rblind.com avatar

You absolutely can. To post from Mastodon just mention @main.

Soundwarrior20 OP ,

Hi, thanks for this. How do I sign in to the rblind instance with Mona? Thanks very much :-)
