Created on June 1 of this year, lemmy.world quickly grew to 51k users and then blew up after reddit's API debacle on July 1, doubling to a whopping 100k in just 9 days later!

I didn't come to a new service just to see it get taken over by the corporate beasts who ruined the internet in general, and I am sure as hell am not going to use an instance that doesn't care about its users....

Automatically creating a shadow account for everyone on Instagram?...

I strongly encourage instance admins to defederate from Facebook/Threads/Meta....

In some of the music communities I'm in the content creators are already telling their userbase to go follow them on threads. They're all talking about some kind of beef between Elon and Mark and the possibility of a boxing match... Mark was right to call the people he's leaching off of fucking idiots.

Meta exist to make a profit, however they're never going to be able to advertise to most people in the fediverse, who also happen to be some of the most knowledgeable people in some fields. If they accept that they're never going to be able to advertise to those people, they go for the next best thing: monetising their content....

This has come to mind because all the chatter about Meta federating....

As Lemmy starts maturing, there starts being so many communities out there that it's pretty hard to keep track. I've been browsing for about a month now, here's a list of popular communities I've subscribed to that others would find interesting!...

I have been on the edge with twitter and reddit for a while and I have finally deleted my accounts that I have had for a very long time there. They are no longer the places I used to know, even more so with twitter. I am ready for my new time here and on mastodon....

Lemmy.world grew from around 51000 total users the moment 3rd party reddit apps started to shut down on June 30 to 71000 total users at the time of this post (July 1). That's a 40% growth in about 12 hours!...

From 2,997 active users across all lemmy instances at the beginning of June, the number increased to 52,797 by June 30th. Source....
