plactagonic , 2 months ago I use my Galaxy S6 as dedicated GPS/maps head unit for my bike (Garmin is too expensive). To get newer maps I had to reflash the rom to some hacked together Lineageos. With Odin/heimdal tool it was basically foolproof. You can get to bootloader so it will be easy. Worse is bricked phone without access to it.
