If you're thinking about something and reach a conclusion that's super outside the mainstream, you could be right, but also could mean you should reinspect your assumptions.

I saw a post on lemmy about how we could prevent 133 holocausts by promoting animal rights and veganism. The article opened by doing some math about how many dogs you could torture and kill in order to be equivalent to taking a human life, and then how many animals humans kill, and concluded that we're committing holocaust...

People devalue animals as a whole outside of those that have been accepted by society to be sociable, likable - pets, basically - and only see them as a commodity. They don't see the animal that dies for their consumption, the suffering they endure, and don't think about just how many animals die for food. Comparing these mass murders across the globe to the Holocaust might be a little controversial, but I don't see any other way people realise the sheer absurdity of animal AG.

Microsoft has gone too far: including a Game Pass ad in the Settings app ushers in a whole new age of ridiculous over-advertising ( www.techradar.com )

Windows 11 is getting out of hand with its push for advertisments, frankly - remember the recent full-screen pop-up to persuade users to install Edge or other Microsoft services? Then another advertisment was placed in the Start menu, and now Microsoft has finally worn my temper thin - with a new Game Pass ad coming to the...

Guys, I'll switch in a heartbeat to a Linux OS if any one you can recommend a stable OS that works on a Surface Go 2. It should support its touchscreen, of course, and a Surface Pen. Plus, a FOSS alternative to Journal would be stellar

Thanks for the insight. I tried my hands at Kubuntu on an old laptop of mine and didn't mind the few differences too much. From what I've heard on Lemmy, Mint seems to be a good all-around suggestion for new Linux users, though

Sadly, their CEO is kind of a weirdo. There was a recent post chain on Mastodon I think where a user shared their disappointment with Kagi - had something to do with their not being as privacy-focused as they claimed they are - and the CEO just decided to keep sending unsolicited emails to the OP about this, trying to with them over with phone and video calls

If any of you guys have a PS4 lying around gathering dust, consider jailbreaking it. Depending on the firmware, it is pretty easy to do and opens up a lot of possibilities. Surely better than being neglected :)

Edit: Firmwares up to 11.00 are jailbreakable as of recently. 11.00 is from around late 2022, so if you have a console that hasn't been in use since then, there's a good chance you can jailbreak it. Base model, Slim, or Pro - doesn't matter

Well, obviously piracy if you're into that. Apart from that, using cheats for games, dumping your physical games and having a permanent copy you can use without the CD and an active license (probably possible with a digital game too I assume? not sure), applying patches like a 60fps patch for Bloodborne, emulation of PS1, PS2, PSP and a bunch of other consoles etc etc.

Running Linux if you're that kind of person :P

The "owner" of Animal Well's publishing company, Big Mode, is a well-known YouTuber called videogamedunkey who makes gaming-related comedy video. This is a reference to one of his videos

Yes, it does. The standard method is to use a PC with Linux or Windows and install a program that triggers the jailbreak on your PS4 whilst connected to it via ethernet cable. Using a TV makes it a little more hassle-free depending on your setup since you're turning on your TV anyways and don't need to use the PC at all.

Have recently jailbroken my PS4 and am now contemplating rooting my TV as well. We bought it a couple of years ago and have never connected it to the internet, so the model plus WebOS version should be compatible with the root.

You have access to specific homebrew apps that add features and allow for shenanigans like running an exploit off the TV itself instead of needing a PC like in this case

On the off-chance that anyone here tried the jailbreak method using your TV:

I was able to root my TV using rootmy.tv really easily and am now trying to connect my PC to the TV using SSH or telnet in order to run a couple commands and send the needed files to trigger the jailbreak. However, I can't for the life of me connect using SSH or telnet - I get a "connection timeout" error everytime, making it impossible to log into root. The IP address and the port I enter are both correct (22 or 23 for the port depending on if SSH or telnet is chosen).

I tried a couple methods to install OpenSSH since in my research it looked like this might be an issue which also didn't work, tried disabling my firewall, adding the program to the exception list in my firewall etc. - nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Wanting to dual boot Windows with Kubuntu. Am I fine getting a Windows 10 key instead of 11?

A couple of months ago, I wiped Windows off my old laptop and installed Kubuntu instead. Now, I was thinking of dual booting Windows additionally for a certain game (definitely not League of Legends, for sure not) and will need to buy a new key. Am I fine getting a copy of Windows 10 despite Microsoft's discontinuation, or...

Those two vertical lines on the right side aren't part of the meme. They're faults on my TV that I keep forgetting about the moment I stop consciously noticing them. And on the rare occasion that I'm moved to try and do something about it, I'm stopped from getting it fixed by 3 things...

Locking myself out of the Ghost achievement in Dishonored, I might have made the game more enjoyable to me by accident

I've played the game around seven years ago for the first time on my laptop and enjoyed my time a lot. Back when I got my first PS4 around a year later (2017ish), I got the game on there too but ended up not playing the game at all because I couldn't get used to the controller gameplay....
