Eeh, they already did it with nokia 3310 and 8110 in 2018.
So I guess it still seems worth it.

As a sidenote, what the fuck, that was 6 years ago?

If possible, bookmark http://68k.news/ and http://frogfind.com/ on those phones.

I'd rather like smartphone in a different package.
Like so:

I don't think they still make such phones though.

If I get what you're referring to as drugs, then none. I never even had alcohol, coffee nor energy drinks. Mostly as a weird flex at this point.

how long before you’re not offended to find out it’s been chucked?

If it's the kid's decision, personally, 0 seconds. Though, in that case, if it were just to be thrown away* I'd rather take it back and return it or resell it, perhaps even just for symbolic value so that it isn't wasted.
This is true for everyone. It's stupid to hoard useless gifts. But then again, I also consider gifts a bad idea all together.

*If the kid says he wants to sell it to someone, exchange it, gift it,... , that's reasonable.

If it's the parent's decision, infinite time, unless it is rightfully** ruled the gift was inappropriate ^(sorry)^.

**E.g.: "He's too old to have plushies." is not reasonable.

Great.
This should be the standard for old retired software.

I think it could be being scared of doing something wrong subconsciously.

But what do I have to say here? I can barely speak to a cashier after 30 minutes of thinking what precisely to say and building up the courage, even if it's just "Hello. ... I'll pay by card."

This is the perfect love GNU+Linux story.

user224 ,
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Nothing.
I can only focus on 1 thing at a time and there's already 20 of them at once at any time in my head.

But I can listen to music. Although it depends on what it is. But not to worry, I can just listen to a single song on loop for hours non-stop.

user224 ,
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Not as far as I can see.
But there's many false positives, which is also why NextDNS has allowlist.

Looking at mine, something even blocked www.guinnessworldrecords.com (Lightswitch05) and ieee.org (none of my current blocklists anymore).

Goodbye Ads also blocks xHamster. Interesting.

Where/how to efficiently download music in bulk?

I have a relatively large collection of songs I downloaded from YouTube, one-by-one, on my Android phone. I would like to download a lot more of the songs I like, with correct metadata and without having to manually edit the album cover art, artist, and more, on my Windows PC....

@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Find the albums you want to download on Tidal, copy the album URL, and paste it here: https://doubledouble.top/

You'll get the correct metadata, including lyrics!
But sure, there are drawbacks. Not that many people can download music at once, so you get this:

Don't worry, it's usually not stuck, but that number just won't update.

Alternatively, look at Soulseek. A P2P music sharing platform.

For both cases, I recommend checking the files with Spek. It's possible someone even took a 160kbps MP3 and converted it to 24-bit 192kHz FLAC.
You'll need to find how the spectrum looks for different lossy codecs at different bitrates to approximately see what you're looking for (specific cut-off frequencies and shelving). And sometimes it may be confusing due to how the songs are mastered.
You decide if you care. Probably not since you were ripping songs from YouTube.

make it look cool

Got it. Animated background, GIFs, HTML 4.01 frames, marquee, privacy-friendly ads which are just GIFs linking to other websites. Did I go too far with the last one?

@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Much better than modern minimalist look.
Currently I sport Oxygen theme with GNOME icons which is good enough, but it's not quite there.

My dad really changed since joining TikTok. Now that's all he talks about. Come look at this, come look at this,...
"But I am busy."
"Oh, come on, it's short."
"Look. See? People love Putin."

For fucks sake... Then he proceeds to loudly curse when he gets yet another account banned for posting some trash.
When I try to talk to him, I am met with "Wait, I just have to finish this video." then later he complains I don't talk with him. ¿?

I mean, it's not just TikTok alone, he uses Facebook, TikTok and VKontakte, but I feel like that had the biggest influence.

It's possible to do some form of crypto mining with phones/tablets. Maybe that.

Not having a use for extra storage. Wow.

Task manager can have a password?

Anyway, it looks suspicious. Resolution of that window is not quite right, it's fuzzy. Though I now see you said the .exe is signed, so I guess it's just some scaling bug.

user224 ,
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

No, that's not what I meant. The window and text around looks fine. I meant the content of the window, that prompt itself.

I have a DVD collection I want on my Jellyfin library. What software should I use for compressing these DVD files to sizes matching what you find at sea?

EDIT: Thank you so much everyone! There's so much help for me here, and I'll recommend anyone with similar question as me to read the comments...

user224 ,
@user224@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Perhaps Handbrake.

But if you do care about the quality, then you should just download those movies in higher quality than DVD. Like this you're just getting 480p/576p with visible compression artifacts at the same file size.

A highly compatible design with no ads, unnecessary images, videos, animations, scripts that goes straight to point delivering you exactly the information you need and nothing else? Something that's easily accessible even with old feature phones allowing older people to get information easily?
Simply something that loads instantly and just works?

Who would want that?
