...using data from the radial velocity (RV) detection method. This study holds the potential to help astronomers develop more efficient methods in detecting Earth-like exoplanets, which are traditionally difficult to identify within RV data due to intense stellar activity from the host star.
in the first year of observations as part of the JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES), we found many hundreds of candidate galaxies from the first 650 million years after the big bang. In early 2023, we discovered a galaxy in our data that had strong evidence of being above a redshift of 14, which was very exciting, but there were some properties of the source that made us wary
In January 2024, NIRSpec observed this galaxy, JADES-GS-z14-0, for almost ten hours, and when the spectrum was first processed, there was unambiguous evidence that the galaxy was indeed at a redshift of 14.32, shattering the previous most-distant galaxy record
In the end I don’t think internet users in rich powerful countries are the users most likely to benefit and invest their time into in the fediverse. It would be cool to have some Lemmy servers from some more obscure countries, like, I don't know, Mali, or something. Do they have any interesting top level domain names?
Until a working prototype is built, I will be treating the field of warp drives (even sublight warp) with a healthy dose of skepticism. Glad people are working on it though.
Huh, I never thought about this. The plurality norms don't quite match snail mail.
"The mail is here" (this sounds normal)
"The mails are here" (this sounds unusual)
"I got an email" (this sounds normal)
"I got a letter" (this sounds normal)
"I got a mail" (this sounds unusual)
I guess this comes down to the fact that there is no widely-used word for a single piece of electronic mail. Perhaps "eletter" would be the analogue, but I've never seen it used. As a result, "email" is used for both a single piece, and the category as a whole.
I also have some concerns over the recommmendation to block, which I voiced in the original thread. If I block a problematic user, I can no longer help by reporting their posts in the future.
Is this not a slightly selfish action? It solves the problem for you, but doesn't make the community better for everyone. I feel like blocking users should be reserved for issues like harassment, not spam.

Yeah, it sounds like they had to tweak some software to better utilize the remaining threads:
In response to this change, we modified the recording algorithm to be more sensitive to neural population signals, improved the techniques to translate these signals into cursor movements, and enhanced the user interface.
