It is easily readable wingdings. It doesn't say it has to be easily understood or interpreted.

Why not serve fried chicken on Juneteenth? How is it different from serving corned beef on St. Patrick’s day? ( old.lemmy.world )

Disclaimer: I am not trolling, I am an autistic person who doesn’t understand so many social nuances. Also I am from New Hampshire (97% white), so I just don’t have any close African-American friends that I am willing to risk asking such a loaded question.

shasta ,

I feel like this all hinges on the assumption that black people do not proportionally like watermelon and fried chicken more than other groups of people. I'd be interested in some stats on that. A quick search brought up this study which shows that they do https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9884589/

However, now I have to wonder if they eat more chicken than other ethnic groups due to generational poverty and the fact that chicken has been historically the most affordable meat. I didn't have any success finding the answer to that question.

Regardless, those foods are delicious and I'd be happy if a tradition of eating watermelon and fried chicken for Juneteenth became more popular. What really matters is if any significant amount of people actually feel discriminated against for it or if the social justice warriors are picking this fight on behalf of people that don't actually care.

Rich people own homes?! I never would've guessed

shasta ,

Why do they even have an anti-submarine ship in this fight? Does Ukraine have any subs?

shasta ,

I didn't think Ukraine was operating that far from home

But then you have to buy the hardware attachment separately. That's where they get ya.

Judge slams Quebec youth protection after Inuk teen placed in 64 different foster homes ( www.cbc.ca )

Map indicating elevation levels throughout the state of Florida

It's infamous among big business execs. It's famous for everyone else.

the traits that we today associate with health will become disadvantageous in the future.

Yeah I can think of a few, like aging. 10000 years from now kids will be saying, "wow, those poor unevolved savages lived such short lives and only really got to enjoy the first little bit of it before they started falling apart. They even had genetic engineering at the time! Imagine how many people would be alive today if they hadn't been so scared to edit their genes to prevent aging." Then their teacher would come over and explain that it wasn't so easy at the time. There were still so many other problems they had to solve and related genes that need to be modified to avoid undesirable consequences, and let's get back on topic: how many planets fall under the rule of the galactic empire including our own planet Urth?

Being vague about the requirement leaves more options for game companies to find various solutions to comply. It's quite accommodating.

But if the rate of knife attacks are currently the same, then logically it would make sense that knife attack rate would be much greater in the US than UK if guns were to be banned because some percentage of the current gun crime rate would convert to knife crimes. I guess the US is just a more violent place in general.

shasta ,

Yes those are both true. What's your point?

shasta ,

So you're gonna buy it from the PlayStation store and play it on PS5?

shasta ,

This is like half the point of polyamory

shasta ,

I really like the ps5 controller. It's comfortable, and the haptic feedback on the shoulder buttons is a really cool feature imo. The resistance is variable on the shoulder buttons so depending on what you're doing in game, it can be harder or easier to depress the button. I thought that was cool.

shasta ,

Sounds detective to me. But I've only played FF7 Rebirth on it so far

What is the benefit of closing Studios? Why not sell them?

Yes, this is in relation to the closing of Tango Gameworks and Arcane Austin. Is there some immediate monetary benefit behind it that I have no idea about? Is it so they can keep the IPs and not have to deal with the developers? Are the Studios too expensive for anyone to buy? I honestly don't understand how these executives...

shasta ,

What's stopping the employees from the shut down studio from simply making a new studio and continue making good games? They would have to come to with a new IP but it's still a strong position.

shasta ,

Are you a script writer for James Bond?

Looking forward to the next 007 game 🙂

What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?

It bugs me when people say "the thing is is that" (if you listen for it, you'll start hearing it... or maybe that's something that people only do in my area.) ("What the thing is is that..." is fine. But "the thing is is that..." bugs me.)...

It's a lot harder to cheat through a career

shasta ,

Mine died after 10 years because I played the thing to death. At that point I went and got the PS2 slim and love that thing even more

Change port to 8080 because stupid container locks down 80

Indeed. Has "home" ever been an alias for 127.0.0.1?.
