I just found out that my therapist's office is closing due to an reorganization of the non-profit it's a part of, so I'll need to find a new therapist to transfer to or decide to discharge.

In true to me fashion, I downplayed the impact that this change is likely going to have on me and more pinned my rage on the systems that be failing and deflected to inquiring about my therapist's plans from here.

I'm of mixed opinion on what I want to do next. The mental health crisis that landed me there was for the most part resolved, and in the past few months I've felt like I might be ready to move on from it. But it's so hard to get in with anybody, I'm not against being transferred... but I also don't wanna start over again with a new person but also I don't feel quite ready to end therapy.

I'd really rather go the route of music or art therapy if I was to continue with therapy, but that would require figuring out how to fund such an endeavor because insurance typically doesn't cover that.

But the for the moment, I'm feeling kinda bummed that my run with my current therapist is wrapping up into it's end and a bit meltdowny about it.

@pathfinder @spika @actuallyautistic My counselor retired (several years ago, now); I, too, had gone as far as she was going to get me, and it was a bit bumpy for a bit. I've found crafting and gardening and the like to be calming and centering, which is good, because you are so right, it is hard to get in with anybody (esp. when you have to do it on Medicare or other insurance not everyone takes).

@actuallyautistic Somehow got into an argument earlier about fractions with my parents, especially the fraction 15/16. I said that 7.5/8 is the same thing as 15/16, because they can be converted to each other by multiplying or dividing the numerator and denominator by 2.

My mom basically said, no, that's not right because it's not a "proper fraction" which doesn't make sense to me. The math checks out, and numerators can have decimal integers. Is there something I'm missing?

@chevalier26 @actuallyautistic It's the same, but it's not a 'proper' fraction in that we express fractions as most people know them in common parlance as whole number/whole number. If you talk about the ratio of one integer to another, it's also the same, but when I type in '7.5/8', what comes up via the google is 15/16. Your 7.5/8 is an expression of the ratio, 15/16 is the fractional equivalent.

@chevalier26 @actuallyautistic Math is more rules, I think, the only part of our language that does have rules, actually...

@Uair @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic Every plural is a math word.

@ndvirons @Uair @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic Decades ago, it was discovered that six month old babies, who can't do math and don't have language to speak of, recognize that three tones equals three dots.

Noam Chomsky's 'black box' theory, that we have the capacity to learn language, includes math - 'how many' is part of language.

Try to describe this picture without using 'math words' and all you can do is say 'cookie' six times:

@Havoc_online @ndvirons @Uair @chevalier26 @actuallyautistic 'A cookie' indicates one, which is a math word. Repeated = more than one.

Hi! I'm hoping for help with an art project exploring autism and 'barriers' (sensory, social, structural) that lead to overwhelm, shutdown, meltdown, exclusion... (Either via masking or directly). I'm starting by compiling a list of things - my own include stuff like being interrupted whilst focussed on a thing, crisp bag rustling, body spray, unnecessary 'chit chat' group emails, arbitrary changes... Any more that any of you would like to share would be much appreciated. Each 'barrier' will be written out within the artwork @actuallyautistic @actuallyaudhd

@krafty @gri @actuallyautistic @actuallyaudhd Some of that's sensory processing disorder (lights, hot/stuffy rooms, itchy tags, loudness and very ...however, some's traffic, and I bet that's a universal PITA to everybody ND or NT.
