Assuming this is between two consenting parties (I.e the person knows where their tampon is going), what makes them a creep?

CasaOS Android SMB Help ( lemmy.today )

I'm new to self hosting and just got CasaOS setup following up to part two of Tech DB's guide. The SMB works on my Linux computer, I can create documents, etc. However I'm having trouble accessing it on my Android phone. I'm using Material Files, Search for SMB shares, and find "CASAOS" but it's under a different IP address as...

Thank you for qualifying that. I hate when people immediately go “.255 isn’t a valid address!” It, and .0 very much are if you’re using a /23 or larger.

ramble81 ,

Potential double (triple) nat issue? Do any other streaming services work?

ramble81 ,

Just note, OP, that the last part of his statement is pure speculation. The first part is technically true, which can lead to that inference, but no information has been released which corroborates it. However, that does not mean it’s not possible.

ramble81 ,

The bigger trouble is creating a CDN has a stupidly high barrier to entry. You literally need your own data centers across the world, your own server infrastructure, the man power to manage it, etc.

You could try to host it on a cloud provider but you’d go bankrupt even quicker. Unless someone were to try to build a co-op run CDN, it’s just not gonna happen without a profit motive and a large amount of capital.

We will update the Backstage Pass Cars list with all the remaining cars that have previously been Festival Playlist Exclusive

That’s nice that you’ll at least be able to finally get exclusive cars you may have missed.

A lot of people here are “use Linux!” Well as Linux’s desktop share goes up, so does it being a target for attacks. The more people you have, the less that are going to configure it correctly (that’s just a fact, and not everyone will be their parents tech support) so it’s just a matter of time.

Electric Aviation is already better than you think - Volts with David Roberts ( www.volts.wtf )

Electric vehicles that can take off and land vertically, but then fly like a plane, are already being sold and used by hospitals and shipping companies. These vehicles have 5 batteries that give it a range of over 350 miles using current battery technology, though the batteries are intended to be swapped over the life of the...

ramble81 ,

Posted this in another chat…

I’ve always been curious how electric planes will address MLW as they scale up. Even if you get similar energy densities and can cover MTOW, you generally count on reducing weight as you use up fuel and are lighter when you land. But with a battery your weight is going to be roughly the same. Will that mean you have to take into account the increased weight and will have less room for cargo/passengers?

ramble81 ,

Maximum Landing Weight and Maximum Takeoff Weight. Because of the stress put on the airframe when landing you don’t want a heavy plane. It’s easier to control when taking off because it’s smoother. So having the same weight on landing means the airframe will need to be beefed up, or you fly with less overall since more goes to the plane.

Finally! The return of MvC2. I bought MvC3 when it came out and I was so disappointed. Not because of the smaller roster but because they reduced pretty much every player to the exact same move set. So it didn’t matter who you chose, it was always the same.

They tried Windows on Itanium and on Alpha. I think the biggest issue is even though the OS could be recompiled, most apps are not compiled at install in order to take advantage of the underlying platform. You saw a similar issue with the original Surface being ARM only. Sure the OS was there but people couldn’t run the Windows apps they were used to and Microsoft got held responsible rather than the developers.

Alternatively you’d have to put an x86 emulation layer which would slow apps down and people would again ask “why?”

ramble81 ,

Microsoft has always embraced their own migration. They converted their apps to UWP. They’re making them platform agnostic with webview2. If you want to run just their software on any architecture that’s fine, but Windows and x86 have been co-mingled and anyone who installs Windows expects their 3rd party software to just work.

Dev of cancelled Life By You game shares some information, including just two weeks notice of cancellation after being given the thumbs-up a few weeks prior ( www.linkedin.com )

I cannot share specific numbers, but I can say that we had an internal metric we were aiming for that had been approved, and that we exceeded that number by a significant portion. We also got a thumbs up a few weeks before launch.

ramble81 ,

I still like the one suggestion I saw to combat that… “sure you can claim it as a loss on your taxes, but in return it must be released to the public domain for free”

ramble81 ,

Yup. They’ve already anchored it. They could drop if $1K and people would think it’s a steal but it’s still wildly absurd.

ramble81 ,

Seriously. Pick a better unit of measurement. I’m not going to multiply it out by 86,400 x 365 to figure out the actual amount.

ramble81 ,

Does this same stack work well for anime? Asking for a friend…

ramble81 ,

He wants them to be like Asian cultures such as Japan and Korea… you know the ones that are going through severe population decline, have some of the highest rates of suicide and family units are being decimated from having no other time. It really amazes me how single minded rich people can be and they think they have the answers to a complex problem.

ramble81 ,

Honestly I find that information irrelevant and that section could have been removed entirely. The actual point of the story was that a Ukrainian fighter jet attacked a target inside Russia.

ramble81 ,

Once upon a time Audi had solar panels on the roofs of their car and it could only generate enough power to run the cabin fan to try to cool the car down while you were parked.

To give you an idea of the sheer amount of power that an EV requires to move its bulk, look at the sizes of their batteries vs home battery packs. An EV has battery packs of around 100kWH and that can get you a few hundred miles range at most. Now compare that to the requirements of a home battery. The average use for an entire home is about 30kWH per day, and most home batteries only recommend 10-15kWH.

Looking at that you start to see the massive difference in power usage required. To charge a small home battery like that you usually need multiple panels (10+). They just don’t have the space and power generation to offset the sheer amount of power EVs require.

ramble81 ,

Between this and the Japanese government dating app, just how out of touch are Asian governments with what is going on? (I guess that can be said of any government). I guess I’m more curious why we’re seeing such a widening gap like this. Where is the information breakdown occurring, or is this straight up willful ignorance?

ramble81 ,

Yeah I don’t think 2000 gets enough love because it was a server OS but I preferred using it to XP even on my desktop.

ramble81 ,

I remember when I was a kid we were all trying to gleek and some of us could do it easily. I never could, so anytime as an adult I accidentally do it, I can’t help but laugh.

Speaking with ignorance and not malice: how is this different from say what the French Foreign Legion was? I don’t know that history.

ramble81 ,

I’d love to play XVI, the story sounds amazing and the graphics are cutting-edge Square but two things keep turning me off:

  • The fighting system is way too close to DMC which I absolutely hated, I want a JPRG not an action game
  • it’s platform exclusive, talk to me when it’s on Steam

So really they’re doing it to themselves here. Their comment about “we’re modernizing the game to bring it to more people” just rings of BS, especially with their sales recently, and if they really cared about that they’d be fast tracking and announcing a date for XVI on the PC.

ramble81 ,

There’s a registry key (sorry I’m on mobile right now) that you can actually add during a clean setup of current non-LTSC versions that remove the requirement for vTPM and SecureBoot. That install should easily be able to be live migrated. We were doing that when first playing with Windows 11

ramble81 ,

I’m torn on this. I’m “white”-ish enough, no kids, can’t get pregnant (or anyone pregnant) and I’m in the top 10%… so would anything for me fundamentally change? No…. I could stick my head in the sand and ignore it, but that’s really not me and it freaking breaks my heart to see all the people it impacts.

So I see one of three things:

  1. Try to ignore it and keep voting blue and on policies to help those where i can
  2. go one step further and put my money where my mouth is and help run an Underground Railroad for those who need to get to blue states while they still have the rights
  3. flee to another country

I don’t really want to think about it, but it’s been at the back of my head.

ramble81 ,

I hope you’re Japanese or can pass for it. As beautiful as the country is (I loved it there) they are highly xenophobic and racist. There are literally restaurants where foreigners aren’t allowed in (even if you’ve lived there decades), getting housing in most places requires you to be “sponsored” by someone with a very high upfront fee, etc.

ramble81 ,

Yeah my parents house had an rv/generator hookup and it had a huge bar across both the breakers so power could only flow in one direction. If you hooked up a generator it would cut the house off from the mains.

You’re paying for an ad-free experience with no logo. You could always make your own ad-blocked and cover up the logo on scrape it off if you want the cheaper one with no ads.

Seat belt? Give me a fucking 5-point harness with that.

ramble81 ,

+1 on the “don’t touch the springs”. Those things are deadly like capacitors in tube TVs. I’ve seen one pop and go through a windshield and the seat of a car. Luckily no one was in it as I doubt a person would have offered much resistance to it.

ramble81 ,

Yes there are other formats such as DTS and Auro 3D. You can even do it with straight up LPCM if you want, but DD is one of the quickest ways to do it and iirc DTS has similar licensing requirements with their logo, and barely anyone has Auro. You could try to use LPCM but you’d need a multichannel output such as 6x analog connections or a digital source using bitstreamed output which many didn’t have at the time.

Jerry Jones, yeah same one that owns the Cowboys, made almost $1B off the price hikes durning the big freeze that almost crippled the grid.

What file format do you store your media in?

Hello! I recently listened to a podcast that talked about how storing media files in .av1 format is very efficient and storage-friendly. I've been storing my files in .mkv format, but now I'm considering using Handbrake or a similar service to convert all my video files to .av1 if it's more compressed than .mkv. So;...

ramble81 ,

.iso …. Storage is cheap and I want it as native as possible, that way I keep all my menus, original video and audio quality without any chance of introducing artifacts.

ramble81 ,

I view “completely turned it around” as as 180 too. Think about it “I’ll turn this car around if you don’t quiet down” it means you’ll go the opposite direction. So “completely turning it around” means they did just that.

ramble81 ,

Yeah on the Texas gulf coast they open up the shoulder into an additional lane and switch direction of the opposite side giving anywhere from 6-8 lanes. This lets them evacuate places even like Houston pretty quickly

ramble81 ,

If I had to pull an educated guess out of my follicle rich posterior, I was gonna say for protection too. Given that we started walking upright having a denser concentration (even pubes aren’t that dense) blocks a lot of direct sunlight for heat, and helps keep warmth in for cold climates.

ramble81 ,

And guess what, it can be done just as easily, if not, more easily on a federated instance. You don’t gain at real additional control over your data (and no putting “covered under license X” is about as realistic as those Facebook posts saying “I don’t give anyone access to my posts”).

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, realistically the only way to control your data from AI is a DRM type solution which everyone fundamentally hates.
