There's an earlier bit that complements that nicely:

"it turns out that the core competency of smiling and promising people things that you can't actually deliver is highly transferable."

There are so many Java libraries that I would probably set on fire if they were physically tangible in any way.

But Biden has slowed weapon shipments to Israel, it's the only thing he can (legally, not politically) do since the aid is mandated by law and his executive power doesn't extend to negating laws.

nxdefiant ,

There have been U S. officials that confirmed this has happened though.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/18/politics/blinken-confirms-pause-heavy-bombs-israel/index.html

I'm not even arguing that it's effective, just that it happened.

nxdefiant ,

More than just one, but yeah, the "overall flow" is set in law by acts of Congress, and only an act of Congress can stop that flow, not the executive branch.

First guy looks like hes from Silent Hil 2

Does Lemmy have a maps without New Zealand community?

GMLRS: And I took that personally

Texas has elected judges, and we'll, I'll let you decide how that's gone.

nxdefiant ,

Ok, well, if you ever come across a test framework named AuTest, you can blame me, because I'm stealing the shit out of that.

nxdefiant ,

Enabling the PIN mitigates this issue entirely. Can't drive it away if you don't know the PIN, even if you have the physical key, fob, or phone.

nxdefiant ,

iPython makes experimenting in an interactive manner so easy, I use it every day.

nxdefiant ,

warp drives, like the one powering spaceships in Star Wars

They had to have done this on purpose.

nxdefiant ,

"These things changed, here's the details" is a pretty tame headline, what's the problem?

nxdefiant ,

I see what you're saying. I wasn't aware that the USDA had updated the zones, so that was news to me at least. The appsite they built is neat. It does actually drive home that this is abnormal and will continue to accelerate in the future at least.

nxdefiant ,

Senior QA in the wizard world would actually be a respected title. Can't make senior if you're dead, and you can be alive if you're bad at it.

nxdefiant ,

We found a race condition in the teleport code. Turns out the efficiency curve for the restoration magic that undoes the disintegration in real time has a parabolic mana requirement related to mass, but disintegrate has a caterneric curve. For human sized stuff they match up, but if you try to teleport something of sufficient mass the restoration starts to draw a disproportionate amount of mana and the whole thing falls apart.

Also, we need to hire some more QA contractors.

nxdefiant ,

Oh snap, so this guy is on the faaaaaaaar side of the bell curve wearing the hood and agreeing with me. Well played.

nxdefiant ,

Conceptually, the nihilists are right! Nothing does matter.

nxdefiant ,

Up until now most people hated when shit randomly popped up while they were typing.

The Apple went and made the iPhone and now we have a whole generation that expects it.

nxdefiant ,

This ad is literally the perfect opposite of their famous Think different ad:

We have an actual gigantic, unfeeling machine, literally crushing an effigy of the sum total of human creativity, only to proudly declare that everyone now needs to do all those things in the same, apple-approved way.

And the real irony is that's the actual message they're trying to get across.

nxdefiant ,

I have also progressed through the stages of grief and finally found acceptance.

50 shades of grey started as a twilight fanfic.

Have you considered writing your own projects that you have to hide from your employers, and be careful with whom you discuss, so as to avoid the legal complications of the company owning your work?

nxdefiant ,

SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD QUESTION 22 BILLION DOLLARS WOULD ANSWER.

nxdefiant ,

Lemmy's bigger than ever, and that's a direct consequence of reddit's enshittification, so there's that at least.

nxdefiant ,

Since they have no other use, they use the surplus small sized condoms for the balloons.

Read "The Terror", otherwise known as "Everything you never wanted to know about Scurvy"

nxdefiant ,

We've made our bed, on that I agree, but I cant help but feel that it would be nice if we didn't take everything else down with us.

nxdefiant ,

Just wait until you get to Texas! 🌞🌞🌞🌞

nxdefiant ,

Exactly! You actually CAN have 50 people finish something 50x faster, but it takes a shitload of planning, and that equals time and money no company I have ever worked for, or even known of, would allocate to something that isn't generating immediate income.

Take the Hoover Dam for example: Dsigned over 3 ish years and built in 5, at a time when nothing that huge had ever been made before, at less than a billion in today money, and 2 years ahead of schedule. It's 90 years old.

nxdefiant ,

For any Canadians out there: As an American, I am so sorry this is a thing.

nxdefiant ,

Fuck. That's exactly it.

nxdefiant ,

It doesn't pay well, but "park ranger" is exactly that.

nxdefiant ,

clapped exactly the right amount of time? Believe it or not, gulag.
