McDonald’s Gives Up On ‘AI’ After Comedy Of Errors, Including Putting Bacon On Ice Cream ( www.techdirt.com )

LLMs certainly hold potential, but as we’ve seen time and time again in tech over the last fifteen years, the hype and greed of unethical pitchmen has gotten way out ahead of the actual locomotive. A lot of people in “tech” are interested in money, not tech. And they’re increasingly making decisions based on how to drum...

Five Guys have a vanilla milkshake till bacon ... Yummmmm

Hezbollah attacked Israel on the 8th of October and supported Hamas attacking and kidnapping civilians on the 7th October.

Iran is actively supporting conflicts in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.
So either we start talking about the religious fanatics or we just accept the USA as the world police and we should just do as they tell us to do.

I'd personally prefer the former....

mindlight ,

I could write my comment since I live in a democracy with freedom of speech.... something I would not be able to do if I lived in Gaza because of Hamas.

mindlight ,

I'm m ok with you rewriting it as long as you agree that Israel was attacked by Hezbollah on the 8th and that Hezbollah supports, not condemning, the war crimes of Hamas on the 7th.

mindlight ,

Please elaborate and feel free to edit Wikipedia:

On 8 October 2023, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, taking advantage of the Israel–Hamas war, fired guided rockets and artillery shells at Israeli positions in the occupied Shebaa Farms. Israel retaliated by launching drone strikes and artillery shells at Hezbollah positions near Lebanon's boundary with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The outbreak of the conflict had followed Hezbollah's declaration of support and praise for the Hamas attack on Israel, which took place on 7 October.

mindlight ,

I know you think you prices something there but if you were right there wouldn't have been any mass protests with thousands of people demonstrating against how Israel is currently acting.

I'm pretty sure 150000 people wouldn't be able to demonstrate and publicly say things like "All of the rats in Hamas", “Crime Minister” and “Stop the War” and get away with it unharmed.

When did you see anything like that against Hamas in Gaza?

Either Hamas, which were elected to govern in Gaza, represents the Palestinian people or Hamas rules with an iron fist, effectively oppressing the Palestinians right to express their opinions.

You can't have it both ways.

mindlight ,

"The only religious fanatics are the Zionist..."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure millions of women in Iran beg to differ.

mindlight ,

Leonid Slutsky, a senior lawmaker, claimed that the attacks had “the aim of sowing panic and dividing the people of Russia” and that “the blood of the victims” was also on the hands of the United States.

Of course it's United States that is to blame.

Holy crap, not even ChatGPT would be able to make this shit up.

Russia says U.S. is responsible for deadly Ukrainian attack on Crimea ( www.reuters.com )

MOSCOW, June 23 (Reuters) - Russia said on Sunday that the United States was responsible for a Ukrainian attack on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula with five U.S.-supplied missiles that killed at least five people including three children and injured 124 more....

mindlight ,

Then we're two crazies now.

The ties between Hamas and Iran are well documented.
The ties between Russia and Iran are well documented.

In my opinion the likelihood of this happening on that exact date by accident is next to none.

mindlight ,

Yet another sign of the Russian economy boo...aaah f**k... I can't even...

At this point it's just depressing how tankies continue to defend Russia, essentially claiming everything's fine and dandy in Russia, when Russia is sending their own people to the front lines in death traps like this.

mindlight ,

Going public introduces shareholders that prioritizes return on investment as opposed to making technology and knowledge about technology accessible for many.

It doesn't always end this way but often enough to worry about it...

mindlight ,

"...referring to the “Leahy Law” that prevents U.S. military assistance from going to foreign units credibly found to have committed major human rights violations."

Hmmm...

mindlight ,

My comment was about the enforcement of the law historically in other conflicts than Ukraine.

mindlight ,

It's impossible! Because that would mean that Hamas is hiding among civilians, effectively using them civilians as shields...

mindlight ,

Yet another sign of the Russian economy booming!
Average Russian now has access to the same combat vehicles as the servicemen at the front lines!

mindlight ,

It sounds like you're an American citizen. As such you're really not very relevant in the European election....

Have you ever bough an external hardrive only to take the disk out of it?

Hiya, so am looking to buy more storage and while browsing am seeing some external harddisks, such as Western Digital My Book and Seagate Expansion Desktop for cheaper than the internal harddisks themselves. Have seen this one video from KTZ Systems where he bought up multiple of these external ones just to open them up and use...

mindlight ,

Yup. /r/Datahoarder guided me right. Got two of the recommended model of MyBook and shucked them.
This was 2-3 years ago. Disks are still going strong in my NAS.

If Ukraine ends up significantly decimating the Russian fleet currently in the Black Sea, it exposes the occupied territories for attacks.

Not that Ukraine is going to take back any land this way but the attack surface is way greater than before and Russia has to either move essential assets far from the coast or they have to move resources from the existing front line to new areas.
There is nothing for Russia to gain by diverting resources to the coastal lines since they will either just be able to hold their positions or lose ground. They can never advance.

Of course it all comes down to what resources Ukraine gets their hands on in the coming months and while all of the above looks promising, the reality is significantly darker.

A review commissioned by the UN said Israel had not provided evidence to back up the claim, but it found that Unrwa should improve its neutrality, staff vetting and transparency.

The only way you can improve your neutrality is if you weren't fully neutral in the first place.

Anyone able to provide a link to the original review. Curious about on what level the UN Commission concluded UNRWA not being fully neutral, had flaws in staff vetting and not being fully transparent.

Today is a slightly better day for the people of Iran. Especially for the women of Iran.

Russian 'double-tap' strike north of Kharkiv kills 6, including pregnant woman ( kyivindependent.com )

Russian troops attacked a recreation center in a northern suburb of Kharkiv at around 11 a.m. local time, killing six civilians including a pregnant woman and wounding 27, the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office said on May 19....

South Africa is going to speak out about war crimes any day now....

Helicopter carrying Iranian President Raisi involved in hard landing, local media reports ( www.cnn.com )

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was involved in a hard landing while visiting a northern region and his condition is currently unknown, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on X on Sunday....

mindlight ,

They know that the helicopter landed hard but doesn't know anything about the status of the president hours after the incident?

Sounds like they saw the decent on the radar and still haven't been able to get in touch with the crew... which indicates that it might have been more than just a hard landing.

On the other hand... Crashing is a very hard landing....

mindlight ,

Or they crashed and everyone died.

mindlight ,

As a Swede I feel a bit offended.

Guys, just be happy that we don't send your Volvo in a flat pack, ok?

mindlight ,

Ok. We've whitelisted you now.

mindlight ,

Everything starts with you engaging in local politics.

You get the politicians your deserve.

If you don't engage in the local part of the political party that is closest to your views, then someone else will.
That "someone else" might not have the same good intentions like you do.

The politicians elected in the lower parts of the political pyramid are the ones that will eventually rise to the next level.

So the corrupt ones in the top could have had a much harder journey if people stop focusing on the top and change focus to their own surroundings.

mindlight ,

Don't give up. It might sound like a cliché: This not something that is won overnight.

It's either that or revolution...

mindlight ,

Wikipedia first lines summarizes the 7th of October quite well:

Terrorism, in its broadest sense, is the use of violence against non-combatants to achieve political or ideological aims.

Hamas still haven't released the civilian hostages. Hamas hides among civilians. The list goes on and on.

The only sad part is that the Palestinian people once voted for a terrorist organisation to represent them.

People can call Hamas for "Freedom Fighters" all they want but it doesn't erase the fact:

Hamas is a terrorist organisation.

mindlight ,

Why Hamas should be called a terrorist organisation?

Because they have been committing acts of terrorism.

Whether other organisations has committed or has not commited terrorist acts is irrelevant in this context and does in no way cancel out the horrible things Hamas has been doing.

mindlight ,

No. Not "in that case".

Fact: Hamas commits and have committed acts of terrorism and therefore Hamas is a terrorist organisation.
It doesn't matter what other countries have committed terrorist acts now or 100 years ago.
There is no connection or dependencies.

Hamas is a terrorist organisation because of them committing acts of terrorism.
End of story.

When BBC is asked to call Belgium a terrorist start you're free to discuss that there. In that thread I will happily claim that Hamas is innocent to whatever Leo did in Africa.

The amount of next level bending over Putin have been forced to do for Xi the last two years... and just to destabilize the world... Oh my. The pricetag on that one....

Long after the situation is stabilized, Russia will still be paying to China for the help they got.

mindlight ,

The Russians are welcome. Our archers and griffins will feast on them.

German chancellor backs EU plan to use frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine arms ( www.reuters.com )

Around 90% of the revenues generated from Russian frozen assets should be spent on arms purchases for Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Monday, supporting an earlier EU proposal to use Russian assets' interest payments to boost Ukraine defence....

mindlight ,

Wait... What?

It's not the assets but the revenue from them that is to be used?

That's really the lamest "sieze" I've heard of...

mindlight ,

I'd argue that Windows 11 is a result of what Google has been getting away with Android.

Google has shown Microsoft that the users happily pay money for giving up the control of their device.
While Android was open 10 years ago, Google has worked hard to lock it down for 99% of the end users.
The amount of personal data they get from each device is staggering.

mindlight ,

Well, at least when you used to buy windows you were the user and the customer.

With Google you're just the product.

mindlight ,

History is full of companies who went under because they didn't analyze and predict what would hurt their bottom line...

mindlight ,

It's important to remember that the same guy who concluded that Russia did not commit any war crimes also concluded that the Russian economy is booming.

mindlight ,

Cool. Where can I read up on the catalog of Tidal?

mindlight ,

I'm not a professional and not living in the US.

  1. Get a Wood Moisture Meter and check everything. If the wood contains more water than it should you have an ongoing problem and there is ongoing microbiological growth.
  2. Some of the Black / Dark parts look like fungus. (In Swedish "svartmögel" which is directly translated to "black mould"). That shit can cause allergies and worse shit.

All in all: get a professional to check this. I'm Sweden we have "building inspectors" that are experts in leakage and mold that checks this for you.

mindlight ,

Nice idea but the chances of that happening is close to zero.

If you take the top 10000 companies around the world that use some open source software and count the amount of full time employees that contribute with code to open source projects I would be extremely surprised if you would reach 10000 contributers in total.

I love the philosophy behind open source but business people doesn't understand why it's valuable for them to have additional cost associated with "employees helping competitors".

Business people are the ones pulling the strings in the corporate world.
