[Bug] Strange pinning issue? A pinned post from another instance in All on .ca

Strange. I don't see this as a pinned post on that community, but yet, there it is. Did an admin pin a post from another instance on .ca somehow or is this a bug with Connect? (Strange things are happening like this since the last Lemmy update. I can't tell if it's a Connect issue, or a Lemmy issue.)

In recent days, I've experienced the same on Thunder. So I'd guess it's not a bug not with Connect but with Lemmy.

Where do you live that you can print your own ballot?

manucode ,
@manucode@infosec.pub avatar

OMG. Here in Germany you sometimes get an entire booklet of ballot papers, if necessary. You wouldn't even be allowed to bring your own ballot. Otherwise, one could secretly mark their own ballot in some way, thereby undermining the secrecy of the vote.

Looking to switch app

I'm currently using Eternity but the developer stopped supporting it. Do you have any suggestions for another Android app I could switch to, preferably FOSS? I don't like Voyager for its UX and particularly the swiping functions. I prefer using swipes for navigation only and doing everything else by tapping buttons. In Voyager,...

Are you sure he wasn't liquidated? To keep him from spilling secrets on that intelligence service?

The CNN headline is a bit misleading. It's not the International Criminal Court as a whole that is seeking these arrest warrants but the ICC's chief prosecutor Karim Khan. The judges have yet to decide on these warrants.

[Side note: This is the same kind of lazy journalism that uses terms like EU chief or EU leader interchangeably for the President of the European Commission (Ursula von der Leyen) and the President of the European Council (Charles Michel). If this was limited to a short headline, I could excuse it, but CNN continues with the same wording in the first sentence of the article: "The International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants for ..." which is absolutely unnecessary, even if CNN clarifies things later.]

Fair enough. The statement in the middle is indeed made from the point of view of a fictional ketamine-consuming character only created for this particular meme.

[Serious] Why do so many people seem to hate veganism?

Seen a lot of posts on Lemmy with vegan-adjacent sentiments but the comments are typically very critical of vegan ideas, even when they don't come from vegans themselves. Why is this topic in particular so polarising on the internet? Especially since unlike politics for example, it seems like people don't really get upset by it...

Some people feel judged for eating meat if they learn that you're a vegetarian or vegan. As veganism appears more extreme, it causes a stronger reaction.
These people don't like being judged, so they seek to judge you instead. If they can judge you for not eating meat, you can't judge them for eating it, or so they feel.
Some vegans being quite obnoxious in their attempts to convert others, doesn't improve things. Rather, it helps those who dislike vegans to reaffirm their beliefs that all vegans are silently judging them all the time.
All of this is just my theory.

You could pass legislation that requires corporations not to do harmful activities in other countries if these activities are illegal in your country. If a corporation does such an activity abroad it would still be prosecuted as a crime in your country. If a corporation doesn't want to subject itself to such accountability, it would have to stop doing business in your country.

What exactly does European mindset mean? Jumping out of the train at every stop to seek out a yellow square painted on the platform floor?

manucode ,

One could question why a German-Chinese man who's supposedly a critic of the PRC government, can freely travel between Germany and China without facing arrest. Instead of, you know, employing him and giving him access to the European Parliament. But what do I know.

Great, Germany's safe. Fax machines and paper documents will protect us.

As far as I understand the article, NFC wireless charging requires a special NFC wireless charging antenna which would replace current generation NFC antennas.
