right after a sattelite broke into space debris and the ISS crew had to go into their ships for safety? a lot going on up there

Slashdot: ISS Astronauts Take Shelter In Boeing Starliner After Satellite Breakup

he's using the measuring tape to check how many centimeters of war crimes landed in that home

lurch ,

I agree, but agile and scrum are not meant to be followed to the letter no matter what. So people are doing it right if they notice some part of the process should be changed to make it work for them.

lurch ,

Don't worry, US Americans. You're among friends.

lurch ,

i have a loooong list of things i'd expect in exchange. (freedom for uighurs, no harrassing neighbour regions/countries, stop cyberattacks, no supporting russia, etc. etc.)

lurch ,

there's a base n joke somewhere in there

lurch ,

well, maybe then do non-IT for a while

Shower thoughts are wasting water.

My city is in the middle of the worst drought in recorded history. My showers are typically under 2 minutes and I have to shower with a bucket to catch otherwise wasted water to use to flush the toilet. I also shut the water down when I am wet enough so I can scrub myself without having unneeded water flowing then start it...

lurch ,

depends on region. my region has enough water. still, most people try to not waste it. water has to be treated before it goes back into nature and people understand it helps to minimize this process.

but it's more about the routine anyway. you get used to the movements you make in the shower, so the brain starts to trail off. doesn't mean you just stop moving and think. that usually only happens when you're traumatized or so.

lurch ,

we don't. well i don't. it's individual, but you loaded the question, so it's hard to answer it correctly

lurch ,

nobody in EU and Ukraine cares what russua demands or cares about. that ship has sailed.

lurch ,

this is just systemds way of telling you to listen to me when i say you gotta make backups

lurch ,

i just read the title and it sounds like it will freeze people to death

lurch ,

you just think that because you don't already have the result of your criteria sitting in a magic field

lurch ,

okay, but why did you use a password when the ssh/sftp key is right next to the files

US should also give random other nations these permissions. like idk Brunei or Australia maybe.

lurch ,

same for me. it doesn't even save time or effort. it just really irritates, maybe even harms the skin on top of taking as much time as shaving anyway. it's so useless. can't recommend.

lurch ,

if there are billions of people, new ones born every second, and everyone tries it once -> they gonna make a few dollars

lurch , (edited )

They should never have done it in the first place, but seeing how it takes them so long to kill mostly unarmed civilians doesn't exactly qualify them to attack another region, but whatever gets bibi to play the victim and the strong man at the same time and keeps his right wing friends happy, i guess.

lurch ,

it's irrelevant, because if they don't get killed, the people who sent them win and it will be proof for them and others this is a good tactic that works and should be repeated. by killing them you may save the next batch. by not killing them, you make it worse.

lurch ,

Hi blurry. You can call me daddy 😆

lurch ,

it may be helpful in some cases, but often plastic is so successful because it's not biodegradable. if insects, bacteria and fungi have a hard time eating through it, it's a container that can protect the contents from them. it's difficult to replace withpout losing that ability, especially when it is preferred to be transparent (as in see-through) as well

lurch ,

no, but i recognise one profile pic.

also, my block list is gigantic.

lurch ,

i hope russia gets split up and basically ceases to exist.

lurch ,

The russian war could be ended if China attacked from the other side, forcing russia to split its forces and China could take a gigantic chunk of land out of russia above Mongolia, crippling russia forever and encircling Mongolia, forcing all shipments not by air to Mongolia through China.

lurch ,

Well because Hanas is not a nation, not even officials of sorts. It's just some rando guerilla group that likes to abduct people and shoot missiles at people they can't beat.

lurch ,

anecdote: during the pandemic every day seemed the same. i sometimes forgot ro shower for a few days. so i put a water sensor in my shower. when i shower, it starts a macrodroid automation that records the date. another macro plans and reminds me when it's shower time.

lurch ,

if this is the case, it should be in your contract, you should get paid for on-call duty and get a free SIM and/or phone for those notifications, so you can mute or shutdown notifications from your private SIM/phone

lurch , (edited )

considering we have a record of over 6000 years of overlapping armed conflicts and wars, yes absolutely.

there has not been a single worldwide peaceful day for thousands of years.

it's not 100% sure the ones currently going on will be called world wars. maybe it will be a new one. there's always another war, unfortunately.

jar jar binks saying uh oh big boomers

guys, be careful with these kind of sandals. more than once the front of the sole of mine got caught in something and i tripped. now i only buy those italian style sandals that have a piece going down the front.

lurch ,

any that has the sole in the front like a little shovel are dangerous in my experience.

those are safe:

lmao, i was low key looking for this trivia for several years. the irony that this was helpful 🤣

lurch ,

if the T-1000 hasn't been 3D printed yet, the axe may still work

lurch ,

reminds me of the time someone said "Who is this 4chan?" on tv and it became a meme. good times

lurch ,

some streamers use a capture device to stream on a second device with an extra internet connection, so the stream doesn't interfere with their gaming internet connection

lurch ,

if this even is propaganda (what is very controversial), it's the good kind; the kind that inspires people to be thankful for what has been passed down to them and to treat others with respect.

lurch ,

I always wonder what they are thinking.

"let's drive through that wide flat area without cover and hundreds of craters. looks safe"

"oh no, the vehicle in front of me got destroyed by a powerful weapon, better keep driving past it, because that must have been their only round."

"oh no, my vehicle got hit as well, but it's unlikely they brought a 3rd round. i mean, come on."

"insted of running backwards to the tree and river, covered by the wreckage of my vehicle and the smoke, we better run sideways, on foot into the open area without cover. surely my helmet and vest will protect me against the thing that just destroyed the armored vehicle."

probably drunk idk

War is terrible, but the russians make it more terrible on purpose.

Man accused of using generative AI to create virus in Japan 1st ( mainichi.jp )

TOKYO -- A 25-year-old man has been served a fresh arrest warrant for allegedly creating a computer virus using generative artificial intelligence (AI), the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD)'s cybercrime control division announced on May 28, in what is believed to be the first such case in Japan....

lurch ,

Japan has a suspiciously high conviction rate though (>99%). They either don't even go for criminals they are not sure about or there's some form of tampering going on. Hard to say.
