4090s around the world tremble in fear

kautau ,

Yeah this is just capitalistic business in general. Don’t do anything proactive if it might reduce the bottom line in the short term. Blame others and beg for help when you weren’t proactive. Succeed singularly, fail collectively

This literally sounds like the international version of two petty neighbors fighting while trying to not break their HOA contracts

They are not primarily a domain registrar, they are a website builder SaaS. So they will probably try to sell you on that product when you renew, but many registrars will try to upsell you, so that’s not uncommon. If you are planning to transfer away, I can certainly recommend Namecheap, I’ve used them for many years without issue

kautau ,

Right, they’re pushing the boundaries as much as they can with plausible deniability, because they want the west to make the first move so they can point at it and go, “we were never hostile, they started it”

kautau ,

Absolutely agree. Happy mutual cake day!

kautau ,

Yeah he didn’t give a shit if they switched to for-profit, he was just mad he wasn’t getting some of that profit

Philosophical take.

We can. We figured out how. Thousands of humans fly every day across the planet faster than any bird. We can also live in environments we were definitely not designed to whether it’s with clothing, fire, or advanced HVAC systems. And we’ve pushed that further with our own little atmospheres under the sea or in space.

Evolution didn’t stop with us. It is us. Evolution, in trying every possible permutation possible landed on an organism that adapts the world around it, rather than waiting generations to adapt to the world around it.

Now it’s a matter of if our social and societal evolution will see us succeed or end in failure. If we don’t solve the climate crises we created, if we end up murdering each other, if we get smacked by an unforeseen object from space, potentially built by even more advanced evolution, we lost, and evolution will continue. Evolution is us, but far too often we’re too blind to see that gift, and advance responsibly

The managers probably have zero say. The franchise owner probably gets a kickback so to them it’s a no brainer

As long as it’s not the ending scene, please, I don’t think I could recover from that

If anything they’ll be celebrated by pro gun groups:

The National Rifle Association on Thursday urged the U.S. State Department to "use every means necessary to return U.S. citizens home to America."

kautau ,

Yeah the system of “this post probably has disinformation” did the opposite, and enticed idiots to re-spread those posts, thinking that their elusive “deep state” was working against them. It was working against them, but it was foreign entities and national corporations that want them to keep following their path of idiocy, and they happily bit the worm and swam with the hook

Generally today a hipster is someone who jumps onto social trends they don't know anything about because they are different from the norm. Often the idea is that they don't care about the thing itself, but rather just being perceived as different. But I'm a long time linux user, and in my head if a hipster is going to try linux it's way more nuanced, like real hipsters (and real linux users). You'll have the dude who tries ubuntu just so he can say "i use linux" to his friends with Macs. You'll have the dude who asks his bandmate who's been using linux for a long time, so he tries Debian, but then gets frustrated and stops, because the "cool factor" isn't enough. And then you'll have the hipster who goes like all in on NixOS or something and makes it their entire identity for awhile. I use arch btw

kautau ,

On the grand scheme of things? No. In terms of small gains? Yes

True, though that shouldn’t give anyone dev or publisher the right to release a broken game on consoles because it works on PC. Either postpone the PC release date until the console issues are fixed, or release as a PC exclusive until the same. Part of the reason the game was so successful with phantom liberty is that they stopped previous gen console work so they could only focus on hardware that could actually support the game. As with many devs, their partnerships fucked them, getting pressure from Sony, MS, and Nvidia to release the game before it was a polished product

It’s also my opinion the female voice actor did an incredible job where as the male voice actor did a great job. Even in the most basic of side quests, it feels like she is giving it her all to be V in that situation whereas on the other hand some lines it feels like he’s just phoning it in.

Admittedly I haven’t played the new expansion as male v yet, and that may change my opinion. Especially considering I think Keanu gave 110% percent on phantom liberty where I feel like there are certain lines in the original game that were just read from a sheet without context and marked as done

kautau , (edited )

I’m on a male playthrough a just recently started, and I think the trick is to realize that he’s playing the lines as a more aloof v, which is fine, and actually interesting psychologically as a v that “keeps his cards close to his chest and is cautious about who he opens up to” but you have to accept that version of v in your playthrough, whereas I got used to the “always emotionally invested v” of the female playthrough. Like I said, I still think he did a great job, but that mindset helps me to align the character with the experience. Either way, nice convo, choom

kautau ,

Yeah like I said in my other comment, I’m having fun playing through a male v playthrough with the thinking that male v just doesn’t open up often, and is trying his best to keep his cards close. It’s a fun experiment, and plays homage to how male v’s voice actor plays the character, and how a hardened veteran nomad v or abused street kid v might interact with folks, but Cherami’s amazing work is canonical V to me.

Without a twitter account you can't expand the thread, and not having a twitter account means I have no idea if there is a PDF in there or not. Nothing like using a walled garden platform to literally hide information behind Musk's paywall.

EDIT: I managed to find them elsewhere and put them somewhere easier to access:

Unfortunately this can be said for a few nations now at this point

The meta problem to that is the super rich are gambling on failure just as much as they gamble on success. They have their super portfolios so spread out that if something fails they may lose money on the thing but make more money on the effects of the failure with other investments. And for the most part, they don’t handle that at all, it’s data science run hedge funds that are running trillions of calculations a minute as markets and global shifts occur to ensure that “line go up” for the accounts they manage, which results in a lose-lose for everyone else, because often the bad social things happening are more profitable so they will try to move the market in that way. Hypercapitalism is fucked

This article is terrible, but this is the plot of multiple pieces of sci fi media. In cyberpunk 2077 you have “soulkiller” which is a program that extracts the entire contents of someone’s mind to an “engram” that can be used to interact with their consciousness after death. And the black mirror episode “San Junipero” is about people uploading their consciousness to continue to exist after death. While it’s a dumb gimmick in its current state, it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see this become a thing in the future.

kautau ,

That’s true, certainly more fitting to what this company is claiming to do

kautau ,

Right, the rating list is generic, whereas it should be categorized. For example while iMessage is a walled garden, if the list was sorted by ease of use, it should be first, as it’s nearly zero-configuration for the end user and they get encrypted messaging. Matrix would be first on open access (if we weren’t counting SMS), because it’s available on so many platforms and clients. Signal probably wins on security, though I don’t know enough about it to verify that. So on and so forth

kautau ,

And RCS is only supported on Androids with Google or Samsung’s messaging apps, so therefore requires you to buy an android. However since iMessage is cross platform through Apple’s ecosystem, I would still rate it higher than RCS for ease of use. And I would certainly rate it higher than matrix or signal, as they require you to install additional software than what comes with a device.

Hmm, I don’t use the feature frequently, but it hasn’t failed on me. I can say that I use CarPlay frequently, and Tidal’s CarPlay implementation is a thousand times more reliable than Spotify, so when it comes to device based implementations they seem to have done a great job.

Looks like they offer a free trial, https://offer.tidal.com/ so I would say probably best to pilot it with that and see if it suites your needs

EDIT:

Testing on my app, it doesn’t seem to do what you want to do. You can select different output devices seamlessly, but you can switch between two clients the way Spotify can, sorry for the misunderstanding. Hope you find something that works for you
